Amber Portwood Aka Teen Mom investigated for possible Domestic Violence Felony Charges

Punching your fiance in front of your baby ON CAMERA was probably not a smart move, Amber!
Teen Mom Amber Portwood is in a lot of trouble for attacking her fiance, Gary Shirley, in front of her baby, because in Indiana, domestic violence in front of a child under 14 years of age can be a felony.
According to police in Anderson, Indiana, Amber may face felony charges in her case. Not only that, but Amber is also going to be investigated by the Department of Child Services (DCS).
DCS will interview people including friends, neighbors, and other witnesses, and they have the right to do so according to the following Indiana state law:
“Failure to report child abuse/neglect is a crime … Indiana law requires any person who has reason to believe that a child is a victim of abuse or neglect to make an immediate oral report to DCS or to law enforcement.”
Indiana's DCS is currently in the assessment phase of their investigation, but they'll be requesting interviews with everybody who knows Amber and Gary soon.
Sounds like a serious mess that Teen Mom's gotten herself into!
What do U think of Teen Mom's situation? Do U think she deserves felony charges?

I just read the newest OK magazine today and she said that her and Gary are back together and have exchanged "promise rings" - it never ends with these 2!!
ETA: She definitely does not deserve felony charges, that's a bit extreme...

that's for this week LOL Who knows what next week will bring. There could always be a fortuitous trip to Walmart in their future.

You know, I don't wish jail time upon her or anything, but I'm glad it's being taken seriously, and I hope she takes it as a wakeup call and tries to get some help with her anger management. Based on her behavior on the show (half-a$$ed apology for losing her temper, continuing to get up in Gary's face when they argue), she doesn't seem to really understand how wrong it is, or be able to control herself.

This is JMO but
I don't feel bad for her at all.....if HE was the one hitting her NO ONE would feel bad or think it wasn't a big deal.
I think she should be brought up on charges.
I think it is SO DISRESPECTFUL to hit a man. That man is someone's son, would people want some girl smacking and hitting their sons b/c she didn't like what he was saying.
I WOULD NEVER hit a man especially in the face, the same way I expect to never be hit.
I am SO GLAD that this is being taken seriously.

Abuse is abuse. Why is it ok for her to do the things she did to him and get away with it? Like you said, if he had done it to her, he'd be sent away.
Sure you'll hear the comments "she's a girl", "hits like a girl"... but I'm sorry, she should not be able to get away with that behavior, ESPECIALLY when there is a child involved.

ITA with this, because 9 times out of 10 That baby was standing right underneath them witnessing and absorbing everything that was going on. She's going to learn that this is acceptable behavior.

Finally!! ITA with the above posters..I hope she gets what she deserves. Abuse whether man or woman is totally wrong and no one deserves to be hit. I feel horrible for that baby and unless something is done now..that child won't have a chance to know what normal is.

She absolutely does! I wish you could see how some of these kids turn out, witnessing domestic violence all their lives. Felony charges should be the LEAST of her worries right now. From what I have heard and read on here (I have never seen the show) she is neglecting her child severely and maltreating her by exposing her to this kind of abuse.

Wow - very judgemental. I was not saying she should not be held accountable for her actions, I just said felony charges were a bit over the top. You wish I could see how some of these kids turn out? You know nothing about my life and what I've been through and how I've turned out. Hope no one in your family goes through the things I went through...

Without a DOUBT she deserves felony charges. I think it's disgusting it's taken this long for them to do anything.
The double standard in domestic violence truly p*sses me off.
Because a woman beats her partner, it's all "Oh I feel so bad for her, there must be so many issues going on and we need to just understand it because we should have pity."
If it's a man, "Oh that SOB needs to be locked up FOR GOOD! How can she let him beat her like that? This is an OUTRAGE that he is not in handcuffs right now!"
I don't care that Gary is some big guy and people say "oh well it's not she can hurt him THAT much." Bull$hit. She hit her partner NUMEROUS times, front of their child.
She's a disgusting human being and I hope they lock her up and let her know that domestic violence of ANY SORT no matter WHO the victim is, will not be tolerated.

been saying it over and over again her child needs to be taken away from her and given to her father or someone else. that child is suffering, tv show or not anyone who verbally abuses/physical abuses in front of a camera is ten times worse with out the camera there. If she can easily smack her partner around she will soon progress to hitting and screaming at her child next if not already.
I also find it sickening that if he had hit her or yelled at her his butt would of been in prison already. Double standards!

Judgmental? That's a stretch. She's abusing her SO in front of the child. That IS a felony. There's video proof. Where is the judgment?

From what is being "edited" on the show, it seems that Gary washes all the clothes/crib sheets, (fight over dirty crib sheets, & his mom went out and bought new ones which started WW45 between Amber & Gary) feeds her, etc.
And she's portrayed as lying in bed all day, not cleaning the apartment, and neglecting her child. I'm not saying this is truly what's going on b/c editing could be a huge factor, but it's certainly portrayed this way.
I also don't like how she get's quickly defensive & violent when it's suggested she's a bad mother. Sounds like a bit of guilt is fueling her rage.
