And, the worst parents in the world award goes to.....
ME & DH!!
We were all so tired yesterday. DD wanted to go to sleep at 6ish. I kept her up until 7, so she'd STTN. Dh put her to bed and we promptly fell asleep by 8:30. This morning at 5AM, she's whimpering in her crib. Didn't sound normal. DH goes to get her..her room is 90 DEGREES!! He put her heater on and forgot to set the temp!! She was soaked in sweat and seemed off..whimpering..almost shaking! I got her a sippy of cold water..she sucked the whole thing down and wanted more. I stripped off her socks and jammies and let her just hang out in her onsie. I made her a cool bottle and she sucked that down and another sippy of water! After that she was fine, but it was a scary 15 minutes or so. Her little body was HOT. Once she cooled down, I put her pants and socks back on and left her in the onsie without her shirt. She seemed back to her normal self, but I feel HORRIBLE!! DH feels like the biggest jerk and worst father in the world. My poor little munchkin..I can't believe she slept in there all night before waking up. Now, I'm paranoid about the heater..even though it was human error. Ugh, I feel horrible, because I always check on her and the temp before I go to bed, but I just passed out last night from sheer exhaustion.

Re: And, the worst parents in the world award goes to.....
These things happen.... we have a ductless heating unit in DD's room. I usually turn it off in the morning so it's not running all day and then turn it on about 30 minutes before bedtime.
One night I forgot and it was COLD outside. When I went to get her in the morning her room was ice cold. I felt like the worst mommy in the world for forgetting to turn the heat on.
She won't even remember, don't beat yourself up! Glad your DD is feeling better!

Do not hate yourself! You are not a terrible parent. Accidents happen, we all do it. Your daughter is okay and events like this just remind us how careful we really have to be, always!

Re: And, the worst parents in the world award goes to.....
i did something similar a few months ago during a nap. i put the heater on and didnt set the "auto" so it just kept going up
he was sleeping FOREVER (like 4 hours) so i went in to check on him and it was 86 degrees in the room
he was sweating and had some VERY red cheeks but he was ok
you are not the worst parents, we all make mistakes!!!

Things happen no matter how careful we are sometimes. Just be thankful that your DD is OK and use this as a learning opportunity to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Believe me, I have definitely had my "OMG I can't believe I just did that and THANK GOD my DC is alright" moment. Certainly puts what I think is a healthy fear into me so that I 'm more careful in the future.
Glad everything is OK!

We've done that before - DS likes to hit the button on the top of the heater so he usually sets it to auto or 90 degrees (we keep it at 65).
You aren't the worst parents - things like this happen more often than you think!

Re: And, the worst parents in the world award goes to.....
The opposite happened to me....DD's bedroom is the coldest room in the house. I didn't realize that her heater wasn't working. When she woke up in the morning...and I changed her diaper....her WHOLE body was freezing!!!!
It was terrible! I felt so bad!!! I have no idea how she slept through it. After that....i put her in heavy duty fleece pj's and socks and an undershirt.
But she was fine....happy as can be. It happens....try not to beat yourself up over it. You and your DH are FAR from being the worst parents in the world

Re: And, the worst parents in the world award goes to.....
I can totally see this happening. I have forgotten to set the timer myself but luckily at the time, DD wasn't STTN, so when I'd go in a few hours later to tend to her I saw that the room was getting hot. I have also woken myself up on more than a few occassions paranoid that we forgot to set the timer. It's an easy mistake. Don't beat yourself up.
