Another daycare issue - is this a hopeless cause?
At the end of the day, some of the classes are combined to keep with the staff to child ratio. Since Cailen is now one of the older ones, he moves into the toddler room when this happens, which I am fine with. He loves being with the bigger kids - many of whom he knows from when they were in the room with him. He loves the different room, toys, etc...
But one of the tecahers is really young. One time, I came in to help untangle a little boy's fingers out of her hair as she sat there screaming and not watching the other kids because his fingers were entangled (he has down's syndrome and is quite impaired - he comes there after DDI at the end of the day...) But today, she was YELLING at a little girl on the top of her lungs to stop climbing a chair.
I know toddlers are frustrating, and they can do the same annoying thing over and over again - but it really bothered me that she was screaming. Cailen never hears screaming at home, and I don't want him exposed to it in daycare where we are PAYING out of our nose for decent care. There are so many other things she oculd do instead of scream at this kid (like remove the chair) but obviously if she is young and inexperienced, then she will only know screaming. I can't shake it and Cailen will be in her room soon.
So, my dilemma is this - do I have another teacher at Cailen's daycare hate me as I go off on tattle yet again, or do I let it go and see if I hear it again... she didn't see me because I was peeking through the window on the door because I was watching Cailen play with another child, thought it was so cute, and didn't want to disturb it...

whether or not she saw you...tell... The wy I see it...you aren't paying her to be her friend...you are paying for someone to entrust your child with...what if she has no patience with Cailen because he grabbed food like in the past? actually...maybe do chain of command...pullher aside tell her u are concerned and explain why...and then see...or just plain outright tell... me?I would tell. its not like shes having drinks with u anytime soon.,,and tell the headmaster or whatever they called they have to really start watching...jmho

Re: Another daycare issue - is this a hopeless cause?
I am in the process of getting licensed to run a family daycare in my home and I am going to be hiring part time helpers...if ANYONE EVER screamed at a child, I would want to know immediately. It is actually against state regulations to yell at any child in a daycare environment. Disciplinary action needs to be given in a calm manner. I have 2 toddlers at home and I know how frustrating it can be when they do not listen. But it is not some young teacher's place to be yelling at a child that is not her own. She should be educated enough to know how to handle toddler behavior, or she shouldn't be working with toddlers!
I would say something...and if it continues, I would change daycares!

I agree with this... and completely agree with your wanting to not have Cailen in that environment. I can imagine how scary it could be for him. I have to hope though that once you say something this behaviour will be addressed and you won't have to switch daycare.

Please tell the director. This is TOTALLY unacceptable for a teacher to scream at children, whether she is tired, they are unrully, etc.... It does not matter what the reason is.

I'd say something as well. The teacher that I pick Christopher up from everyday is young as well, but she is amazing with the babies and I am glad Christopher has time with her at the end of the day.

I'm sorry, screaming is nonsense and shows a side of violence, not only would I tell, but I'd threathen to pull him out and report them. GL.

I would say something. I had a similar issue recently and spoke up about it and the person was spoken to about it.

I would definitely say something! If I were to see this happening, you can bet I would be walking into that director's office. We are all pretty calm at home and I don't want her to be exposed to someone screaming. I totally agree with the fact that its an arm and a leg and they deserve to have someone caring and calm that is watching them all day. Makes me want Taylor to stay in her current room for awhile.

Talk to the director. That teacher needs some toddler training quickly. To me toddlers are definitely the most frustrating of rooms in a day care, so you need to have teachers with tons of understanding and a strong grasp of the toddler mind. Plus if she is yelling in front of parents it is more than likely worse when your not there.

she didn't know I was there!!!!
I was peeking through the window to see Cailen playing - he always stops when he sees me to run to me, so she was acting as if I wasn't there...

Re: Another daycare issue - is this a hopeless cause?
Liza another thing I would try to do is get other parents opinions too. If you can get a few parents to talk to the director about the teacher she will have to do something (she should with just one parent speaking to her but you KWIM) We directors fear parents in groups
The girl most likely needs some training. Is she a new hire?
Also how old are the children in this class. Because the state regs will only allow the youngest and oldest child to be only three months apart. The ratios for the children go by the youngest in the class so it should be a 4:1 ratio in the room.
ETA: The oldest/youngest thing is with mixed age groups.

I would also tell...if she had startled that child while climbing that could have turned into something bigger. She could have easily walked over with the child she was holding and helped the child down from the chair.

I agree too. Hopefully the director will address it and the teacher will get some direction/assistance before Cailen is in her room full time.
