Another one!!! Drunk driver kills. Some updates in first post.

One woman was killed and four others were injured in Levittown when a drunk driver plowed into their vehicle early Sunday, police said.

Passenger Virginia Casazza Urgo, 62, of Valley Stream, died at the scene of the crash, on Wantagh Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike, police said. The others were taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where two were admitted in critical condition, police said.

Sophia Santos, 20, of Albertson, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and second-degree vehicular manslaughter.

Santos, of 26 Exford Place, was driving westbound on Hempstead Turnpike just before 2:30 a.m. when she hit a Chevrolet that was turning onto the turnpike's eastbound lane, police said. She was admitted to Nassau University Medical Center, police said, and did not appear to be in serious condition.

Police said the Chevrolet's driver, Nancy Tumminello, of Elmont, was treated and released for her injuries; Linda Chapman, 53, of Levittown, was admitted in critical condition with internal injuries; John Urgo, 53, of Valley Stream, was admitted in critical condition with a fractured jaw and vertebrae; and William Clarkin, 56, of Mineola, was treated and released for his injuries.

Stories like this make me sick. Maybe they need to start charging people with murder when they drink and drive and stop slapping them on the wrist.

I just don't understand people...you are drunk DON"T drive.... call a freakin cab or a friend or whomever. It's freakin common sense.

When i hear stories like this it just turns my stomach.. why do people have to drink and drive and take a life? I hope they put this person behind bars for a 'Long' time!!!

I was driving on Hempstead Turnpike this morning & saw the flare marks. I knew it had to be bad....It really sickens me to hear stories like this. People think they are invincible when they are drunk! I hope the driver that was charged gets what she deserves!!!!

My friend was hit and killed by a drunk driver. The driver was illegaly here and drove through a red light at 100 mph on hempstead tpke. and split the car and half. They got 1 year in jail!

My friend was hit and killed by a drunk driver. The driver was illegaly here and drove through a red light at 100 mph on hempstead tpke. and split the car and half. They got 1 year in jail!

The man who killed my mom got about the same sentence. He had several prior arrests

In this day and age, this should not be happening, not once, not ever.

I was involved in a serious auto accident(hence my spinal fusion surgery this year) and the drunk driver who also ran a red light at a high rate of speed, got about 6 months of time served I was very fortunate that I wasn't hurt worse

This girl wasn't even old enough to drink but she was old enough to kill someone with her irresponsibility.

I am so sick of hearing about all these drunk driving accidents. And I agree the drunk driver always walks away without a scratch. There is so excuse for drunk driving...call a relataive, call a cab, walk. But for gods sake don;t get behind the wheel. maybe if more drunk drivers are charged with murder when they kill someone people will think twice.

A student in my school was killed 2 years ago by a drunk driver. Not a day goes by that I dont drive on the Meadowbrook and think how preventable it was.
