Stories like this make me sick. Maybe they need to start charging people with murder when they drink and drive and stop slapping them on the wrist.
I just don't understand people...you are drunk DON"T drive.... call a freakin cab or a friend or whomever. It's freakin common sense.
ITA!! It's disgusting how many times this has happened and will continue to happen, and yet nothing changes.

My dh worked with the son of the woman who was killed, Virginia.
Apparently she was decapitated. Makes me sick and she should PAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are barking up the wrong tree. Im sure you KNOW my thoughts on drunk driving.
Im sure at 20 she couldn't buy that mercedes herself. Daddy has money! And that means he can afford a great defense and that of course WILL probably mean she will get off with little to no time

I doubt she will get off- I still think what she was driving and who her father is has nothing to do with what she did
Having a Mercedes doesn't mean you are rich and doesn't mean you get away with killing an innocent woman- there isn't a defense lawyer in the world that could get this girl off
Strike 1- she was DRUNK
Strike 2- she is 20
Strike 3- Driving with only a permit
she doesn't stand a chance- Mercedes or not- and this isn't horse country- so I doubt who ever her father is mathers to the Jury

#3 my aunt drives an even bigger benz
#4 my aunt drives a BMW I was not saying people who drive drunk drive mercedes So get over it!
#5 the person who hit and killed my friend was here illegaly got 1 year in jail. Hitting and killing while drunk means crap. And I know first hand!
#6 you can't tell me the fact that her dad has money isn't going to help her get the best lawyers around

wow- you are taking my comment the WRONG way-
I'm sure her Dad is getting her a lawyer-just like most parents would- regardless of how awful a thing your child did-
the laws have changed since your friend was killed-
but no offense- you seem to have a thing about what kind of cars people drive- who cares- she killed a woman and she was drunk
when she goes to court- no one is going to care what is was driving

Well then I apologize. Sometimes as you know things get lost in the internet world.
I know laws have changed in fact I was the one that posted that on LIF. But again.... plea bargains are still around.
If I had a thing about what kind of cars people drove I myself would have stayed in my apt. instead of doubling my rent payment with a mortgage and bought myself an expensive car rather then continue to drive my 1994 honda civic, that i've had since high school
Kids are not as mature as adults. Just like the kids who's dad let them drive 7 series bmw and the do over 100 mph and wrap it around a tree and kill their friends or the kids who's dad's get them corvettes and they do the same thing. SOME think nice car fast car.. im cool. AND either someone let her use it knowing she didn't have a license OR she stole it!
No one is going to care what she was driving or how much money she had but... the money factor will still make a difference in her defense attorneys IMO.
Anywho back to the original point of this thread.

Nassau County DA along with chief NY legislators are trying to pass legislation to make DUI, in instances where the offending driver kills someone, in line with murder charges. This was in the paper recently and we can only hope that this gets passed.

There really should be much, much stiffer penalties for drunk drivers. I really don't know why they don't get life in prison for killing someone or worse
