Another Q about Cablevision - HDTV cable box
DH and I are FINALLY buying a flat panel TV this weekend, I think! 
I just called Cablevision to ask if the new box (HD ready) will work with a non HDTV and he didn't know. he said some TV's do, others don't  thanks for your help pal!
we have a Samsung tube TV right now. does anyone know if an HDTV cable box will work with it??
I would like to get the cable box today or tomorrow, but I don't want to be without a TV until we buy a new one.

Actually, I just did some quick research, and it's not the TV, it's the cable box that is the question. The old non-HDTV is analog, not digital, so it can't display a digital signal. Most cable boxes are able to output both digital and analog. The reason he couldn't answer you is that he doesn't know what he is talking about, not that he doesn't know what TV you have. I'm thinking that an HD ready cable box would output in analog, since many people still have analog TVs, VCR, DVD recorders, etc.

When we signed up with Cablevision, we specified that our TV was HDTV compatible, so they brought us an HDTV cable box.
I love watching our shows in HDTV!

to answer your question yes an HD box will work with a non HD tv. however you can only hook it up through the coax cable. you can not use HDMI or RCA's And of course you will not get HD channels.

I knwo on the box they have non hd spots to hook up cables. I would have to say that it would work.

We have HD Boxes for all our TV's even though only one is an HDTV. The box is free and you can watch the extra channels

My mil told me that the hd channels are in the 700. Not on mine. I thought it was because she had Fios as opposed to cable. Am I wrong? It gets so confusing.

stephaniea, do you have Cablevision? If so they are in the 700's. So like Ugly Betty is on 07 for regular digital or you can watch it on 707 for HD.

Just went down and checked and it is! I hooked everything up (which im usually very good) and my dh kept saying it doesn't look any different and I was getting mad saying "I know what Im doing"  Guess not. Wait till I tell him.

Okay, is your TV HD with 1080p and hookup by a HDMI cables? If all that is correct check the box and see if it say's 1080i and HDTV near the time on the box...
