Another shoe question....How do you know when to get your DC walking shoes??
My DD is 8 months old and she has been trying to walk for a couple of weeks now, she walks along the furniture and when one of us are holding her hands....Do you think I should get her walking shoes now or wait until she gets alittle older....
Sorry if this is a stupid question....

they learn to walk better barefoot. I didnt get the shoes until she was walking on own and only put on her when outside or indoor at public places.
At home i still try to keep her barefooted.

Re: Another shoe question....How do you know when to get your DC walking shoes??
I waited until she was actually walking to buy her shoes. Their feet can grow 1/2 to a full size in 3 months, so I didn't want to waste the $$ buying them before she was walking.
However, DD leared to walk in the late-Spring, early summer, so she was barefoot outside in the grass while she was cruising still. If you plan to be outside this fall & winter with your DD and she's going to be standing, you'll want shoes.

Re: Another shoe question....How do you know when to get your DC walking shoes??
When my DS was comfortable standing and started moving around while holding on...daycare asked the we provide shoes. I talked to my ped about it and after seeing how active Lucas was he agreed.
I do agree that barefoot is better but in my son's case it was winter and he was constantly slipping in his socks (even with the rubber bottoms) so for his overall safety shoes were best for him. Everyone was concerned that he'd hurt his head in a fall.

My DS is in the same phase and I am waiting, I did buy some shoes from Gap ($12.50) and babies r us ($3.00) on sale, that have harder soles, for when we go to public places and he wants to “walk”. But I wont buy real like Stride Rite type walking shoes until he is consistently walking on his own.

I dont put anything (just socks) on DD when she is walking indoors(she is doing the same thing as your DC--cruising and holding on to our hands), but she also always wants to walk outside so when we are outside I put pedipeds on her because they are soft.

I kept DS in Robeez and barefoot until he was walking enough outside--then I bought Stride Rite walking shoes
