Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name

Do you like your name? Do you like your husband/boyfriend/fiancee's name? Would you name your baby after yourself? If not - would you like someone else to name their baby after you?

My name is Jean Louise. I am not a fan. I go by Jeannie and I like it better but I would never name my kid Jeannie. I would not mind someone ELSE naming their kid Jeannie - only because it would be flattering.

My hubby is Robert - we call him Rob. I never loved the name, but our oldest son is Robert. It wasn't SUPPOSED to be.. Rob actually didn't WANT to share his name.. until he held our son for the first time.. then he wanted him to have his first name and last name. It was so touching I agreed. And now - my son is TOTALLY a Robbie.

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

I like my name. I couldn't care less if it was anything else. I do HATE when people assume it is okay to shorten it. It is hyphenated. Say the whole thing damn it!

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

my name is ok- Elizabeth- but Beth is really my name

DH has a great name- Jake- but not Jacob- just Jake- his mom was very ahead of the trend on that name

I don't think we will have a Jakey Jr- one Jake is enough

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

GREAT question!
My name is Matilde - my mother named me after her mother who passed away when she was only 16.

I HATED my name from kindergarten to HS - in HS I even started to look into changing it to Elizabeth Matilde ( just liked the name ).

But NOW I LOVE it - it is different and the only way I have to honor my grandmother that I never met - my mom's family can't get over how much I am like my namesake!

I wouldn't name my daughter Matilde, just bc I think it is strange to name a daughter after the mother (IMO). But I LOVE when people use it for their daughters. . . although they usually spell it incorrectly (HA!) (Matilda).

FH's name is Anthony Joseph - he doesn't mind it but it is SO common. . . he was AJ until he met me then he got "too cool" for the nickname.

Fh doesn't want a junior although i would love an Anthony Joseph Junior. The reason he doesn't like it is because in his family the juniors are never called by their real names instead they are "baby, junior, little guys, baby Anthony, lil Anthony etc" and he doesn't appreiciate that his 50 year old dad is STILL baby Georgie LOL

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

My first name is too common... but I like how not many people have my middle name - Jessica Faith.

I love DH's name and esp his middle name - Leonard Gabriel.

My IL's had good taste in names... DH's oldest bro is a Jr., but the middle brother is named Fabian Alexander and then DH is Leonard Gabriel.

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

I have never particularly loved nor hated my name. That said, at this point in my life I would never even think of having another one; my name is my identity.

I have always liked DH's name (Brian).

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

I like my name-- I have not met too many other Randi's, but it's not entirely uncommon. I like that it errs on the more unique side-- are there other names out there I like better, sure.. But I cannot say I wish my name was ____.

What I don't like about my name is that people sometimes think I am a male (from just my name obviously)-- even though my name is spelled with a feminine "i"... and then people misspell it all the time with a "y".

I like DH's name... Matt-- Matthew...

I would never name a child after either one of us for a couple of reasons-- 1) I just wouldn't do that, it's not my taste and 2) We don't usually do that in my religion.

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

My husband is a junior and would have loved a III. I like his first and middle names, but NOT together, and I'm not a fan of naming *exactly* after. We compromised, and used my husband's first name as my son's middle.

My inlaws, however, think I'm the devil for not carrying on the name.Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

I actually really like my name - Dana Marie. It wasn't common when I was growing up and still isn't. I would never name my daughter Dana though. I do plan to pass along the middle name. It's my mother's middle name and my grandmother's first name.

DH has the same name as my DadChat Icon
He would like to name his first son after his father - Robert - I'm not a huge fan. Actually, I like Robert better than the nicknames for it.

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

I like my name now, but when I was younger, I hated it. I went by Becky until I was in college. I also didn't like my middle name Charon. I never knew how to pronounce it, and settled on Sharon (for a while, I said Karen). My mom wanted to honor her father who passed away, his name was Charles Richard. Since I was the first-born, she turned Charles into Charon. (Later, my brother was named Richard Charles.)

My DH's name is Lawrence, but we call him Larry. I don't mind the name, but I think it's too long for a little kid.

I like my name, although as a child I never knew another Kelly & its really easy to make jokes that rhyme, like smelly Kelly. As an adult I love my name although my first & maiden names together are somewhat pornstar-ish, I've gotten comfortable with it over the years & I still use my maiden name.

DH's name is Richard, I call him Rich most people call him Richie. Its an ok name, I don't mind it. We aren't planning on having kids, but he has already said he would not want a son named after him. If we were to have a child a boy would be named after my late FIL, Charles & a girl would be Grace.

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

When I was growing up I hated my name: Nicole Rae. The nicole wasn't so bad but the rae I thought was terrible. I was named after my grandmother whose name was charlene rae. I used to tell people my middle name was rachel.

Now I love it. I think that rae is a great middle name and I would use it if I have a daughter.

My husband's name is Anthony (Tony) I think it is an OK name but we have a million Tonys in my family so we will not be using it if we have a boy.

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

good question

my name has a "story". my mother saw a spanish novela when she was an adolescent and she thought the actress was beautiful and she fell in love with the character's name:
lizbeth

not elizabeth, not lizabeth... you get the idea. i was taught early on to correct ANYONE who called me anything different. i have no middle name.

i only found out a few years ago that the character i was named after... was a prostitute Chat Icon

i would not name a daughter my name. only because i'd like to come up with something that hasn't already been used... then again, i named my son after my father

my uncle is an obgyn in the dominican republic. whenever there's been a baby girl born and the parents don't know what to name her, he suggests my name. so there are quite a few lizbeths in d.r.

as far as dh, his name is john. he doesn't like it... he says he's not a man who uses the services of a "street walker" and he's not the potty... he goes by johnny.
so, there won't be a jr in our future

wow, that was long... sorry

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

My name is Kathleen...I used to not be a fan of it when I was younger but I have come to love it! It's a traditional Irish name goes good with my last name now....kind of odd with a long Polish name though which was my maiden name. My mother always wanted for it to be her name and that is why she named me Kathleen.

DH is not a fan of his name but it is his great Grandfathers

I totally got made fun of when I was a kid, you know, "turn the page" Chat Icon but whatever, I like my name. Not many people have it. And some only spell it Page.

ETA: Hubby's name is Michael. I also love that name. Very common in all cultures. Number three most opular boys name.

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

Althought it would be wonderful if someone wanted to honor me by naming a child after me (hasn't happened and probably won't!), I wouldn't name a child after me.

Although my brother wanted to name his first girl after me, his wife (now ex wife) nixed that idea. Chat Icon

I am named after the first woman who visited my mother in the hospital after she gave birth, because she didn't have any girl names picked out.

If Pat had been 10 minutes later, I would have been Madeline instead of Patricia. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff To Baby Names

I love my name and my DH's name. The other day he suggested naming our (someday) kids with our middle names. I said heck no. They're our names and I figure, we only have two names each, that's 4 names in the whole history of the world, we should be able to find ones we like so our kid can have their own name, not mommy or daddy's name. Besides being Jewish, I'm not a big fan of naming kids after yourself in general. DH has the same name as his dad.

The way I see it, the kids'll have my last name - that's named after me enough, doncha think? Poor DH, they won't have ANY of his names!

I like my name - Kristin. The only thing is that it is a lot more popular than my parents thought it would be. DH's name is Michael, which is a nice name, but very common. I don't plan on naming our children after either one of us, though it is possible that Michael will be a middle name.

I like my name because there aren't many people who have it and I like my nickname "MB". I wouldn't name my daughter Mary Beth or Mary or Beth because A) I don't want another "MB" in the world..I'm unique and my daughter will be too! B) Mary and/or Beth are pretty common by themselves

DH is Scott. I like his name but I don't think we'll have a Scott Jr.

My sister does not like her first or middle name. I always felt bad that I got a name I like and she didn't. Her first name is not common at all but I don't think that would have bothered me.

I've never really given it much thought. I like my name though I don't think I would name my child after me or my DH for that matter.

I'm all for everyone having their own name but then again, who knows what we'll think when the time comes and we're holding our newborn.
