Re: Spinoff To Baby Names
I used to hate it since it's different (though now more popular) but as time has passed, I really like it!

The way I see it, the kids'll have my last name - that's named after me enough, doncha think? Poor DH, they won't have ANY of his names!
oooh. What a slap in the face to DH!

Posted by greenfreak Although my brother wanted to name his first girl after me, his wife (now ex wife) nixed that idea.
He divorced his wife because she wouldn't name their daughter after you. That's hardcore.

Re: Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name
I like my name, Shawn. DS's middle name is the same. We don't believe in Junioring, but I wanted him to still have my name. There are a lot of "Sean"s, but not that many that spell it "correctly". I always kid around with Seans that their name is spelled the same as bean, or James Dean, so their name is really "Seen".

I hate my name because people always say it with a twang that makes it sound awful or with a long "a" which is wrong. I'm named after Lana Turner.

Re: Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name
Neither love or hate my name. I would never name my child my name (or DH's) because my brother was the same first name as my dad and once he got to an age where he got phone calls, it got confusing!! I
I think I liked my name less growing up because I couldn't find things with my name on it!!
Kinda feel the same - neither love or hate DH's name but I find it funny that he's the first Tim(othy) I've ever met (seeing as it's a relatively popular name according to the dopey name lists).
ETA: I don't have a middle name either and was always "jealous" because my brother did have one!!! (But he was also named after my father's father).

Re: Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name
I feel like my name, SaraH, fits me perfectly. I never really thought about if I liked it or not, I was stuck with it no matter what, right? My mom claims she started the Sarah trend back int he 70's.
Dh is Christopher. If we have a son, he refuses to name him Christopher. He is a JR and does not feel the need for the world to have another Christopher J. I love his name.

I like my name. i dont have a middle name. my mom didnt think it was necessary. When my grandma got my wedding invitation, she wanted to know why I didnt put my middle name on it....cuase I dont have one crazy lady!
I love my name, its more common now but there were no other Meaghan's when I was a kid - and my parents spelled it different. I love meeting other M-E-A-G-H-A-N's!

Re: Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name
I can deal with my name. I just hate the fact that there are so many "Jenn's" I know about 10 myself. I hated it when I was alittle, and I dont like Jenny. DH on the other hand has a not so common name, Rex. At first I wasnt crazy about it, but now I love the fact that it isn't common. When we have kids, I will pick not so common names, where DH like names like Matt, Mike. More common.

Re: Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name
I've always liked my name: Samantha Maxx. Samantha was not common at all when I was growing up (although now it seems to be very popular) and Max was my great-grandfather. I go by Sam, but I always introduce myself as Samantha (I'm not a fan of Denise Richards and Tiger Woods naming their girls Sam...). I now use my maiden name as my middle name and took DH's last name. I like DH's name: Kevin Michael. We do not plan on naming our children after us.

I like my name. Its Amy.
My Husbands name is Christian....but Its actually pronouced "CHRIS T ON!" His mother was from Germany. After a lot of school yard beating we now call him Chris.
No, we wouldn't name our kids 1st name with our names....but Maybe stick part of it their middle name.

Re: Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name
I've grown to like my name.. Kim Allison. People always go to call me Kimberly, but it's just Kim... one of my mom's biggest regrets in life was not naming me Kimberly.
FH's name is Aaron Matthew. He likes it, I like it, we all call him Double A. He was named after his grandfather, and his grandfather hated his name and was so mad that they named Aaron after him that he stopped speaking to his parents for almost 6 months .
I don't love naming a kid after a parent. I feel like it just gets too confusing "Aaron, phone's for you" and then they both come running. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it though.

Re: Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name
I like my name - Dawn. The only part I don't like is when people pronounce it "Don", like my MIL. We've corrected her and she refuses to try to say it the right way. Good thing I like everything else about her otherwise it would grate on me.
I would have given my name as my daughter's middle name but DH didn't like that idea. Maybe a granddaughter will get it.

Re: Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name
If I had to name myself, it wouldn't be Nicole.
I hate Rich's name. He's a junior, too...so it just complicates things. After experiencing the difficulties, I wouldn't dream of naming a kid a Jr. or III.
his middle name is Arthur

I'm Michele Leigh....I guess I like how my mother named me with one "L", but it's annoying how I always have to say "Michele with one L" when I am spelling my name.
When I was first born, I was named Robyn Leigh, but Mom changed her mind..

Re: Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name
I like my name - Meghan Patricia. I was going to be Nicole, but I am glad my parents changed their mind only because there were always a lot of Nicoles in my grade. My middle name is for my grandmother.
I like dh's name - Paul Christopher. He is named after his uncle. I like that there are not a lot of Pauls and it is a strong name. He wants a junior but I do not because he wants to actually call the kid Junior, and I am not a fan.

I love my name. I would love to have a daughter with my name but seriously, we don't need the confusion. My future SIL has the same first name. So when she marries my BIL, her and I will have the same name.

Re: Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name
I don't mind my name- Lauren Patricia (pronounce Pa-Tree-sha). DH's name is ver masculine, especially combbined with our last name- very stron name, Victor. His dad and grandfather are also Victor, but with different middle names. He feels obligated to pass down the name to our future son, but I don't like it one bit. My dad was a third generation Theodore Henry, and my mom refused to name my brother a fourth. She had a cousin Larry, who at 50 years old, 6'6", 250 lbs, and 10 years after his father's death, was still called "Little Larry".

Re: Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name
I'm not a big fan of my own name (Lauren Teresa). I was actually named after my mom (Loretta). My dad wanted to name me Loretta and my mom wanted to name me Sarah -- they were watching a Lauren Bacall movie and wallah!
I love DH's name. It's Nicholas Thomas. We had a son which was a junior (stillborn). Even though I love his name, I can't say his full name because it reminds me of my son

Re: Another Spinoff To Baby Names -YOUR Name
My name is Jessica Dorothy. Jessica is because my sister loved the name. Dorothy because it was my dad's mom's name and I never got to meet her.
Hate my first name - too common. Middle name is ok - uncommon but too old fashioned.
DH is Carmine Joseph (he is a junior). Not a fan of his frist name although it is unique...but totally fits him. Love Joesph because it reminds me of my grandpa (on my mom's side).
We would not name a child after DH because that would mean they'd be the third (III) and I'm really not into it. But we have discussed reversing the name to Joseph Carmine.

I like my name now, but hated it as a child - it still causes problems. I once said my name over the phone and then spelled it for the person and the fax came addressed to Farah Sarah
DH's name is Sebastian Andrew but we call him Seb. Sebastian is just too hard to say, and a big name for a little kid, plus he doesn't like the idea of naming a child after himself.

I used to HATE my name--Erin. I always thought it sounded so masculine. Now, I love it. There aren't too many of us around, but it's not too "out there" either. I also love how it goes with my middle name: Eileen. It still sounds masculine to me though!
I also love DH's name--Peter. NOT Pete, Peter. In fact, it was one of our choices if we had a son.
My name is Erin also. I agree that there aren't too many of us around.
When I was younger, I used to hate it when people called me Aaron. It's Erin..I'm a girl....Aaron is a boys name!
Now it's a bit more common, and I'm comfortable with it.
DH is a III. We both agree that their will not be a IV. He doesn't want it, and I'm ok with him not wanting it. It causes confusion and can cause credit issues as well (same name, same address, etc.).
