Another "Would you" question
I ran into CVS earlier and as I was leaving and putting DS into his booster seat, an older woman (probably about 70) came up to me and said "Miss, I really don't mean to bother you. Is there any way you can give me a ride, it's just about 4 blocks down Merrick Rd. I'll even pay you". She was carrying several large bags.
I was taken off guard at first, but since I had DS with me and the fact immediately came into my head that people are crazy regardless of age, I apologized and said I couldn't.
I felt bad at first, but as I was driving, I remembered that in my professional life, I don't even bring clients of mine in my car as a rule because I feel like it creates too much risk.
I'm curious though. Would you have done it?

Nope, there are too many crazies in the world. I would feel badly about it, but better safe than sorry!

Nope. If she had the money to pay you, she had the money for a cab. Too many crazies these days.

Ha, good point.
Something did just not sit right in my gut though.
Maybe I've been watching too much of the news lately, but the headline "Crazy granny pulls gun on suburb mom and her kid and steals her car" did actually cross my mind.
And even worse things too.........

Re: Another "Would you" question
No, I would not. God forbid the woman had a health emergency while in your car, or you had an accident...now you're responsible for her. As mean as it sounds, in this day and age, anyone can be crazy.
If she had $ to pay you and it was only a few blocks, call a cab! I'm sure the pharmacist or store manager would have called her a cab if she asked.

I was leaving a grocery store about 6 years ago, and an elderly woman asked me for a ride to her house which was about a 3 minute drive (I knew the area well). She had paid right before me and the employees seemed to know her well. So I agreed to give her a ride. I felt bad, I had seen her struggling in the store while I was shopping. I actually did give her a ride. When I dropped her off she said, "Thank you, god bless you and I hope you have a long healthy and happy life". I always get feelings, but I didn't get a creepy or scary feeling from her at all. In hindsight, I guess I was lucky, because you really never know what people are capable of anymore. However, I don't know if I would still do it now, especially with my baby in the car. Probably not, and this is kind of a shame because there are still good and decent people out there who may just need a helping hand now and then.

Re: Another "Would you" question
I would have offered to call a cab for her, but I wouldn't have driven her anywhere. Even a nice-looking old granny could be working with someone or just a bad person herself.

I would. Honestly maybe I am naive but my mind would not register her as a potential danger, I would see an old lady who needed help.
While voting this year the school I vote at was closed for some reason and I needed to go to another school about 1/2 mile away, I saw three older woman who obviously walked there talking about what a hassle it was for them and offered them a ride, then I dropped them home, one I dropped at the bus bc she was going to work. They were three Italian ladies in their 60-70's, they in no way posed a danger to me.
Honestly no 70 yr old is going to get the better of me unless they have a gun and personally I cannot fathom a 70 something year old woman who looks normal (again if she seemed like a nut I would say no I am talking your average 70 yr old) trying to harm me or my son.
If it were a man--no way regardless of age.
Again maybe I am naive but I just wouldn't tell a 70 yr old seemingly normal woman no to a ride a few blocks away.

Re: Another "Would you" question
I wouldn't have done it either. You have no idea if she is part of a scam where someone follows you home and robs you or something.
Offering to call a cab is a nice gesture, that I would do.

Re: Another "Would you" question
Agree with those above I would not. Could be scam, could be liability issue, I've also heard stories where someone pretends to be handicap/frail to ask for help in some way, and then attacks when you least expect it, so you never know no matter how innocent one seems. If money for you-money for cab.

Ditto. I've given a ride to an elderly man before. He asked me to drop him off at his church... And then he blessed my profusely for doing that and gave me the rosary beads that he was wearing around his neck... I still keep them in my car
