Re: Another "Would you" question

I'd love to say I wouldn't but I probably would. I'm pretty confident I could toss a 70 year old woman from my car if necessary.

Re: Another "Would you" question

In this particular case, you did the right thing because you had your kid in the car.

I similar thing happened to my father in law once and he did help the lady. He was dropping me off by my building with the kids. She must have seen him getting a good buy kiss and hug from me and his grandkids and figured he was safe enough. She then approached him and asked if he would be able to drop her off at a place in the neighborhood and offered to pay him a few bucks. She must have been stranded and had no cell phone to call the cab from. My FIL gladly did it, but he is a man who was alone in the car. You did the right thing. It's unfortunate, because any normal person's first reaction is of course, to help an old lady, but in this crazy world we live in, you can never be too careful.

Re: Another "Would you" question

If my children weren't with me, absolutely, I would have.

Even with my kids, I probably would have had some reservations, but a 70 year old lady, call me naive, but I still probably would have. I know there are crazies out there, but I truly believe most people are good and I don't want to live having the fear of a few crazy people preventing me from doing good things for others.

If she was really just a little old lady and there were no red flags going off, and no gut instinct telling me something might be off, then yes, honestly, I probably would have.

When I was living in Whitestone an old woman asked for a ride back to her coop. It was just a few blocks and I did it. But I don't know if I would do the same today since I have a child now. I'd feel guilty about it though.

Re: Another "Would you" question

Probably not and its sad bc the world is such a sick place now you can even trust an old lady. I would however call her a cab to help her out that way. If she said no to that, u would have to wonder why.

No. When I was younger and not a mother I may have done it but knowing now how crazy people can be I would not. When my daughter is with me I am always on guard when approached by any stranger.

Re: Another "Would you" question

No way. My mom did that once when I was a kid, gave a strange old lady a ride and I remember being in the backseat scared out of my mind. No way. Old people are crazy too.

Re: Another "Would you" question

Nope, no way I would have done it. I would have gladly offered to call her a cab.

I have given strangers a ride home before, from the LIRR I drive two women home. I forget why, but they were two women who went into the city for the day and took the wrong train back or something. That must have been 10 years ago and I was a little nervous even then.

Now, with kids, even without kids, I honestly would not. I trust people, but not in my enclosed car with my eyes on the road giving granny the chance to pull a shank on me.

"Batshit crazy" comes in all shapes, sizes and ages.

So, no. That might make me coldhearted but it doesn't make me dead, so I'm quite alright with it.

If I didn't have my DSs with me then I probably would have. I did before. I saw an old women walking up hill with bags during the heat wave. She looked like she was going to fall. I had to. I dropped her home. 8 minutes out my way. I never had one person thank me so many times.

Line of the night! Chat Icon

When I was 8 months pregnant with my first child (and hugely, obviously pregnant) I was walking from the Metro North Station to my car and felt like someone was following me. I turned around and a nice-looking, 60-ish woman asked which way I was going, and if I could give her a ride. I turned her down nicely. I felt bad about it but didn't regret it then, and to this day I think I made the right decision.

Re: Another "Would you" question

I've been in the same situation, but w/out children. I felt bad and gave her a ride Chat Icon I suppose she could have been packing heat and I wouldn't have known about it, but I only got poor little old lady vibes from my lady hitchhiker.

I honestly don't know what I would've done. She prob approached you (a mom with her kid), because you were her safest option. I would be wary, but I think I would've given her the ride.

Re: Another "Would you" question

nope

can be a scam. she jumps in your car, another car (someone else who is into the scam) hits you with their car and pop wham wow.... money for her via insurance.

In my profession, I "investigate" things. Most of the time my gut has been legally proven.
