Re: Another "Would you" question
My first thought- If shes willing to pay you, she could have just got a cab.
I would have said NO too- ESPECIALLY with a child in the car.

Re: Another "Would you" question
nope. especially not when i have my child with me. You just never know when someone is trying to run a scam...there are cab services for just that reason. If it was an emergency or for health reasons she felt she couldn't make the walk home she could flag down a cop car and I'm sure they'd be happy to assist her if they weren't busy.

nope
can be a scam. she jumps in your car, another car (someone else who is into the scam) hits you with their car and pop wham wow.... money for her via insurance.
In my profession, I "investigate" things. Most of the time my gut has been legally proven.
very good point! I would have thought more about being targeted for theft or being physically harmed but this is such a good point i probably would not have thought about.

Re: Another "Would you" question
I am so surprised by the responses. I asked DH is generally less trusting then me and he said he wouldn't think twice if I came home and told him I gave an old lady a ride with DS. I don't know part of me thinks maybe I should adopt the way of thinking that I should be wary of everyone but I just can't see not helping an old lady.

Wow wouldn't have thought that route either.........but again this is why I never bring clients in my car.

Re: Another "Would you" question
No, I wouldn't. As much as I would feel guilty and would want to truly help her, I wouldn't because in this day and age you just never know. people are crazy. And especially now that I have a DD I am uber cautious.

I would have offered to call a cab for her, but I wouldn't have driven her anywhere. Even a nice-looking old granny could be working with someone or just a bad person herself.
Criminals get old too... I think you did the right thing!
Exactly what I was thinking. If I didn't have my kid with me, I probably would've done it. Otherwise, I would've called for a cab for her.

Re: Another "Would you" question
I would have called her a cab, maybe even given her some additional cash if she was short. But would never let a stranger in the car especially with DC.

Re: Another "Would you" question
You did the right think. A friend of mine did this with an elderly woman who asked him for a ride home because she couldn't walk anymore after grocery shopping with lots of bags. The house was a short distance she said. He was driving for almost an hour with her until he realized she had Alzheimer's. She was making him drive in circles. He ended up bringing her to a local police department. He meant well but learned from that experience!

I would hate to say no but I just wouldn't feel safe. Crazy comes in all ages. Maybe I would have called her a cab and waited with her.

I would not have given her a ride but I probably would have called her a cab, waited with her until the cab arrived and then paid for the fare.

If I didn't have a child with me, chances are I would have given her a ride.
I've done it before.
This, exactly. I think I would have said I couldn't though with DS in the car.

Re: Another "Would you" question
I would love to think that it would be safe to offer her a ride. But alas, you can never be too sure anymore.
I would decline and move on.
