Antibiotics and pain meds in the TWW
I had an emergency root canal the other day. The dentist did not prescribe me a antibiotic because I am BFing and am allergic to penicillin which is the one he would generally prescribe. He told me if the pain got worse to call him. I have been in some pretty intense pain and am taking 3 motrin pretty often. I know Motrin is not very safe during pregnancy but it is compatible with BFing. It is too early to test now, I am only 6DPO. So my question is do I continue to take motrin? Is there an antibiotic that is safe for pregnancy and BFing. Am I acting crazy because I have not even gotten a BFP??

I don't know the info for TWW but my doctor said only Tylenol once you are preggo and up to 4 grams a day but that's kind of it. . which would be about 2 extra strength tylenol 4X a day. . I got zero info on antibiotics. .
she also said def don't take anything ibubprofen related but again don't know if that counts for the TWW or not. ..

I typically refrain from anything but tylenol in the TWW.

oh my doc in the ER today also said that percocet and some other pain thing I'm sorry I can't remember are supposed to be okay too but they have no real facts for that. . she said the problem was that everything they know about pain meds and preg are ancepdotal bc obviously they can't test on PG women -

Advil is FINE in the first trimester. The concern is when taken in the last 2nd to 3rd trimesters.
Even if you ARE pregnant, there is no exchange of blood between you and the embryo for at least another 4 weeks.
Take your pain meds!

Thanks ladies. I'm still taking the Motrin. I read that Tylenol is not effective for root canal pain.

I was prescribed some percocet but I'm trying not to take it, it's not so great when BFing. Thanks
