Any advice for giving eye drops to a toddler?
Both my boys currently have pink eye. They are 10 months and 2.5 years. The 10 month old really has no problem with the eye drops- not his favorite thing in the world, but he cooperates. My 2.5yo on the other hand... I feel like I'm torturing him . He tries so so hard to cooperate, he really wants to. But it upsets him so much. He gets himself prepped for it, gets into position, then as soon as I come at him with the dropper, his loses it. It is a total wrestling match each time, and then he cries after each drop (one in each eye). It's breaking my heart, especially thinking that I have to do this another 12 times. Anyone have any tips or advice to make this easier on him? TIA!

It isn't so easy when they are that age. Unfortunately I had to just pin DS down and do it really fast.. Then I gave him a treat after it was done. I rolled the bottle between my hands for a minute to warm it up, it helped take the sting out of it a little.. Try having him tilt his head to one side and put the drops in the outside corner of one eye and let it run into the eye. Do it while he is lying down.. Hope he gets better with it...

Any advice for giving eye drops to a toddler?
Depends on DS mood...sometimes if he closes his eye, I can put a drop on his lid and then he blinks it in....other times if someone walked past I think they might call CPS...I'm holding his arms, sitting on him, holding his eye open.

Drop it into the inner corner of their eye, with their head back and eyes closed. Have them open their eyes with their head still back and it will run in.

This is how the Dr told us to do it too.
Once you get the drops in the corner of each eye, ease up your grip on them and tell them its all done. When they open their eyes it will go in. Just make sure they don't rub their eye right away.

We had to do allerg eye dropw when me DS was 2.5. I put him in his high chair, strapped him in (well, I did it after breakfast), and then reclined the seat. The drops he was using burned but he did really well with them this way.

put the drops in your pocket for a while before you put them in- when the drops are cold, kids tend to experience it as pain, but if they are closer to body temp, that helps.

Yes! I actually used this technique on myself when I had pink eye. I had SOOO much trouble getting those darn drops in my eyes by msyelf, but that worked like a charm!!

Any advice for giving eye drops to a toddler?
Thanks all for the great suggestions! I tried the corner of the eye thing this morning but that totally backfired because he rubbed his eyes immediately and wouldn't open them. When I held his hands down he just threw his head back and forth, thus flinging the drops everywhere before opening his eyes. What worked great was warming up the drops! The first time, I rubbed them in my hands a bit. Then I put them in my pocket ad kept them there all day. Each time got progressively better once I did that. We also started doing little rewards after each time- a sticker he got to pick out, a cookie, a toy he wanted to play with, etc. Thanks again for all the advice!
