Any advice: Progesterone or Clomid--where to start??
I just spoke to Dr K (LIIVF). Bc of my short cycle and my prog levels, she wants to start treatment/meds this cycle. I am so new to all this and have no idea where to start?!?! She said I could to it naturally this month and just use progesterone for support or start with clomid/timed BD. But since I am ovulating on my own, I'm kinda nervous to take clomid.
Anyone have any advice/personal experience they could share?? Is there a good chance of me getting PG with just prog. supp. alone??
TIA

Re: Any advice: Progesterone or Clomid--where to start??
I have taken progesterone for the past 3 months - but this is my first month on clomid.
My doctor @ RS of NY recommended we use the progesterone for 3 months before trying clomid. My side effects on the progesterone were horrible - I had perpetual PMS and insomnia the entire time I was on it! I had absolutely NO side effects on the clomid which was great.
Since both drugs do something different, do you need to choose one over the other or does your doctor recommend you use both simultaneously?

I O on my own and have short cycles also and was also nervous to take Clomid. I've done Clomid and the Endometrin (progesterone suppositories).
Dr. K had me use the Clomid on days 3-7 and endometrin starting after I O'd.
Don't do anything u r not comfortable with. Maybe u can try the progesterone for a cycle and then add clomid if it doesn't work? May I ask what about Clomid makes u nervous?

Clomid is not so bad. And it's cheap.

Re: Any advice: Progesterone or Clomid--where to start??
Yes...you can get PG on progesterone alone...I did! Unfortunately I had a MC, but I got PG on my very first cycle of timed intercourse. They added Endometrin suppositories 1 week after OV after detecting low progesterone levels. I too had been having short cycles/short luteal phase. I have not really had any side effects with it.
We did a few cycles of timed intercourse again after MC, but no luck yet. We did our first IUI without meds this weekend. If we don't get PG this time, next month we will move on to Clomid with IUI. I too OV on my own. My day 3 FSH numbers have risen over last month, and it's time to use meds before it becomes hard for them to work. My understanding is that Clomid can help with the progesterone levels, and follicle development, possibly leading to a healthier egg. You also develop more follicles rather than one dominant follicle, which can increase your odds of fertilization.

I think you definitely would increase your chances with clomid because you would have more "targets"
Having said that we got pregnant on our 3rd unmedicated cycle (I also take progesterone support).
Do what feels best to you. If you want to try one cycle unmedicated and then switch to clomid go for it! Whatever is right for you and your family

i guess i just figured it would be best to start conservative and then get more aggressive each month. i dont want to start off aggressive and then have to go backwards i guess...does that even make any sense??

Re: Any advice: Progesterone or Clomid--where to start??
I was on clomid even though I O on my own too - I went on Prog. at my own initiative (it was too late to test the level), I wish I had. Now when we get ready for the next one, that is the first thing I will test. I'd try a bit on just the progesterone. GL!

Clomid alone actually solved my progesterone problem. Lengthened my luteal phase from 7 days to 13 days. I have similar background as you and am doing clomid and IUI.
