Any IBS sufferers out there?

Im having SUCH a difficult time since school has started. Being on a schedule and not having the bathroom when i need it is EXTREMELY hard on my stomach.
Im currently on Zelnorm and another drug. All summer i was fine but now im NOT!!!
There are NO trigger foods. Breakfast is the hardest. Theres nothing healthy i can eat at work that wont bind me up.

It has been YEARS since i have gone into the bathroom and just "went" w/o sitting and sitting and waiting and waiting.
Does anyone else experience this?

IM MISERABLE and i cant suffer like this anymore Chat Icon

Mine is not that bad, but my Dr told me to do certain things:

eat food with a lot of fiber in them
avoid caffeine/fat/sugar

have you been doing these thing?

also, stress really makes me flare up - I know when I was teaching, the begining of the school year was really bad for me.

I thought IBS was when you had diarrhea all the time, not constipation.....am I thinking of something else?

Believe it or not, fiber is the WORST thing for me. It binds me like nothing in the world. I had to give up apples too.

I know the coffee is a no-no and Im SOOO addicted. Ive been buying a small int he morning and drinking only half so i can feel happy and then i switch to white tea.

you think that but it is not pretty (esp if you get hit with it when you aren't home). Once an episode came on when I was a 15 minute drive from home - I thougth I was gonna die!

Pretty much I just drink decaf tea all day and don't eat anything to play it safe. Sad but true. I avoid dairy, caffeine, marinara sauce, fried and/or greasy foods, eggs.....

Are you drinking enough water? I'm usually a lot better when I am constantly drinking water. I have a bottle with me at all times.

Re: Any IBS sufferers out there?

Have you tried a stool softener? Also, I take potent pro-biotic pill and eat a yogurt a day. The acidphilus helps regulate the good and bad bacteria in your gut to keep things either moving or not moving depending on your situation.

I have the opposite problem and I have IBD-Crohns. I've been around the block with this stuff. I sympatize with you.

I am also taking, enteric coated vitamin C, B complex and flax. I may want to suggest a liquid form of Omega 3,6, 9. It really helps regulate the gut.

It may sound like a lot but once you get into a routine it will become routine and you may actually feel better which will make you want to keep doing it.

I try to avoid sugar and caffeine..two killers. I am a decaf girl now. I had to.Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have it too- not the constipation one-and I have learned what not to eat-or when I can eat it (like when I am home and it doesnt matter) It can be quite embarrassing-

I have the same issue - I have been on Zelnorm as well! Have you tried Acitivia yogurt? That has helped me slightly - although not as much as it as helped other people.
Sadly, sometimes drinking too much alcohol helps me!! Chat Icon Not the best solution though!!

Re: Any IBS sufferers out there?

I have IBS, I have both, some days constipation other days the other. Its very rare that I have a "normal day" unless I'm relaxed. I have work, school and now internship as well, and its killing my stomach.

i try not to have coffee, but its hard. I've had tummy issues since 2001, for awhile i was on a med that helped calm my stomach overnight, but then it was "backing" me up too much so i went off it.

activia yogurt helped a litle bit at first, but now i think my system got too used to it, or it might be the additional stress.

def. try to avoid caffeine, alcohol, fried foods, tomato products, and certain sauces and spicy foods.

Re: Any IBS sufferers out there?

I have IBS and not the constipation one and it sucks to say the least. Not having a bathroom when you need it is the worst feeling in the world. I've also learned what I can and cannot eat, but sometimes it just is bad. The pain is horrific and I can't for it to be over. I to, though found that taking calcium and staying away from coffee and tea helps. My dr. also gave me a prescription for XANAX which I take when my stomach is really, really bad and it helps with the cramping and muscles alot.

Re: Any IBS sufferers out there?

I HAD terrible IBS all thru high school and college...i still have it but not at all bad as it was

I cut out all dairy and anything spicy...i ate really plain foods
My doctor gave me some stomach and intestinal tranquilizers that would help...i used to suffer in so much pain..a few times i passed out in the bathroom from the pain, so i completely understand where your coming from.
If you have any questions please feel free to FM me...I have a great GI doc too if you are in need of one.

It's a stool softener without laxative. I used to have a really hard time going and this makes is easier.

Re: Any IBS sufferers out there?

I have a self diagnosis. I mentioned it to my GYN and he said it was very common and didnt think much of it. But the bloating and the pain sometimes is worse than labor pains. Yesterday i thought i was going to the hospital. I feel everyone's pain....
