what are the pros vs cons?
would you rather rent a whole house?

Hrm.. (ETA: I'm in an apt, lease is up Jun 30)
PRO I love having a private pool and area for her to play in
CON I hate not having a back yard for her to be free in
PRO I love that everything is someone else's problem
CON I hate not having her 'own' room with her own colors etc
PRO you can usually get a great school district without paying the home prices
CON I hate its not forever for her, its not a real home in my mind.
CON no price lock, if you will. Never know what will happen in the future
CON neighbors.. come and go. Right now I have college kids who have no care for the kid next door
CON no ability for growth. You can't change anything about the apt.
So I bought a house. before then I rented in a home. I'd choose a house over an apt with AJ.

we are def looking into buying a home in the near future this would just be temporary....as the apt we are in now we need to get out asap!!( to keep our sanity!!)

We just recently sold our house and moved into a new complex. We love it. No worries about anything breaking... no worried about who is cutting the lawn. Big pool, playground area, gym on the premises. It's great! Yes, it's a year by year lease, but unless the rent goes up drastically I don't forsee us leaving anytime soon.

I live in an apt. complex, but we rent a duplex towhome apt. So we have a backyard, our own entrance, 2 floors. It's the best of both worlds because it's like a house, but maintenance takes care of everything...garbage, repairs, lawn care, etc.
Eventually we want to buy a townhouse condo, maybe a house, but we prefer that complex type living, and not having to worry about maintenance.

We rent a two bedroom co-op. The only thing I really hate is the no backyard thing. But DS is only 8 months so he is not out "frolicing" yet anyway. All we are responsible for is electric and the rent is reasonable. Maintanence is included. There are two pools -- one adult and one kiddie. There is a playground. Another con is that we are on the second floor and boy going up and down stairs with a baby is murder...especially with the stroller...and the groceries. Sometimes I would love to be able to pull up into a driveway if DS is sleeping and just unload the car first. Where we are I have to bring him in the house, put him somewhere safe and then go back out alone to the car and get whatever I couldnt carry on the first trip. Oh...another irritating con...no gas/charchol grilling...had to buy a george foreman electric indoor/outdoor grill and let me tell you...totally not the same
