Any NYS employees who work for SUNY?

I wanted to know what/if you received any maternity leave/disability from what I am reading you do not have any and must use your time only otherwise you do not get paid.

The literature that I have read is cryptic and just doesn't come out and say exactly what you do not get.

(not preggers but was planning on TTC but now it looks like we will have to wait another two years to save up time)

My job doesn't have any maternity leave but there is FMLA--I believe its 12 weeks and you get paid for 6 of them. We can also add any saved vacation/sick time to the 12 weeks.

ah thank you i am just trying to figure out if there is something. I mean if i get six weeks that would be amazing since I will probably only have 3-4 weeks saved up and hopefully we can save up some cash to maybe extend it another month with out pay.

FMLA does not pay you anything, the 6-8 weeks paid is your short-term disability.

I work for SUNY and this is what I know:

They encourage you to use your sick/vacation time for your maternity leave, so you continue receiving your salary.

From the HR website at SB:

Eligibility
The following requirements must be met in order to meet the service requirements for the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA):

The employee must have been employed for at least 12 cumulative months on the date FMLA leave is to begin. An employee's total service must be counted when determining if the employee has completed the required 52 cumulative weeks of service, regardless of any breaks in service and regardless of the percentage of time paid during each of the 52 weeks. A week counts toward the 52 weeks if the employee was paid for any portion of that workweek.

The employee must have worked a minimum of 1250 hours during the 52 consecutive weeks immediately preceding the date FMLA leave is to begin. When counting the number of hours necessary to meet this 1250 - hour threshold, the University must include all hours the employee actually worked. The law does not include paid leave time such as holiday, vacation, sick, sick leave at half-pay, STD, worker's compensation leave, personal leave, military leave, leave for jury duty or witness leave as time worked toward the 1250- hour minimum.

ETA: They also reference that you should contact your collective bargaining unit over their policies.

thank you! It is all based on our time in order for me to get paid. I really starting to resent my job more and more I have been here since 2007 but only started to get paid time off Nov. 2009. I am going to have to wait two years then at least - poor dh he will be mad that he will have to wait until he is 40 to have our first kid.

I figured that i would stay out 3-6 months depending on paid time off. We can't afford for me to miss a paycheck unless we save up money solely for that. Which will take us a year or two or i keep trying to find a second job.

thank you! It is alll based on our time. I know we can't collect disability. I really starting to resent my job more and more I have been here since 2007 but only started to get paid time off Nov. 2009. I am going to have to wait two years then at least - poor dh he will be mad that he will have to wait until he is 40 to have our first kid.

yes i am in UUP and I agree it does have some nice things but I feel like I have to pull teeth to get info - weeks pass by before someone replies to my emails/phone calls (human resources.)

I don't earn a lot of time since technically it is less then a year I am here even though I have been here since 2007. With in a year or two I will have some time banked and then it will be fine its just getting there is hard. I will be for sure working all floaters and Christmas week (which they close down the school except for one building which i would be working in.)


So glad I started to ask questions now because I had taken about a week and half off so far in time and now I will be trying my best not to take any time off even if i am sick or if its snowing out.
