Any other teachers with PERMANENT certification? I've got a question...
With all of the Governor Cuomo nonsense going around, I heard that permanent certification will be amended...specifically, that we will now need professional development hours to maintain our status? Is this true?

How come this is the first I'm hearing of this? How are people finding out? Do you have any place that I can read up on this?
Thank you.

i am hoping that the things we do anyway (faculty meetings, district professional development hours, etc.) will count towards these hours. I know they did for the professional certificate holders in the "good old days." lol

Oh DH does and I don't think he knows that. He does a lot of PD anyway but in principle it might send him straight over the edge

Any other teachers with PERMANENT certification? I've got a question...
What about someone like me who is currently not working? Do I need to find ways to get hours to maintain my certifications?

I know it seems like it would suck, but if its the same requirements needed for teachers with a professional certificate to maintain their license (175 hours every 5 years), its really not that bad. I get ALL my hours through things done by my district and don't have to do anything additional -- department meetings count, faculty meetings count, superintendent conference days count, professional development meetings count, etc.

Yes if you don't do the hours they will take away your certification.

Re: Any other teachers with PERMANENT certification? I've got a question...
My union rep sent us an e-mail with something from nysut stating we didn't have to do the hours but we need to register every 5 years. I think some pieces of his budget are being still being negotiated. E-mail [email protected] and express your concerns and suggestions. They're still taking public commemt.
