Anybody have a seam in the middle of the sink with granite?
Our granite was scheduled to be installed this weekend. Everything was going smoothly until our big piece. The granite fabricator decided to make the big run one piece. It's an L shaped piece that is 10.75 ft by 5 feet. Well the three guys they sent almost took out my front door, kitchen wall, ceiling fan and then the cabinets before they rested it on the base cabinets. In order for them to slide it in they took off the metal sink hole supports. Well you all know what happens next. Move it and then the sound heard around the world. Crack. My brand new granite was done. The company says now that I must take a seam. They said 99% of their seams are done in the sink area so we agreed to that. Anybody else have a sink seam and is it noticeable? Thanks.

Yup that's where our seam is, it will look fine. They blend it in perfectly... you can't even see ours unless you are looking for it.

Wait. They broke your granite and now they're telling you that you need a seam?
We have a seam and it's not noticeable but if the granite company broke my granite I'd be FUMING.

Best part is originally they told me they weren't going to give me a dollar off the price after they broke it. They tried at first to blame the fact that it was seamless on us. We never asked for the piece to not have a seam. They sent out their rep to measure and he was in and out never mentioned anything to us. The sales person told us that it should never have been one piece. Hello....I wasn't the one who measured it that way or cut it that way. Apparently when I pay cash for something and save THEM sales tax then they are giving me a tremendous deal. I was floored by the response of the sales person who would take no accountability for this happening. She told me that she was sorry I couldn't understand that it's natural stone and things like this happen. Lets start with this a should have been two pieces and b if they had enough guys to lift it then they wouldn't have had to prematurely take off the sink supports which is where is cracked. If anybody is looking for a granite place. FM me I have a place that you shouldn't go to. Sorry rant over. Thank you everyone for your responses. I still have the balance that I need to pay so this new fused piece better look good or we will be in court.

Oh my God Sean.

Where's that Ave person - they are the know-it-all on sueing.
I am so angry for you!!!!!! You think they'd be so happy to have your business!!!!
I hope they do a good job of sealing the seam b/c I have seen some pretty terrible jobs.

Re: Anybody have a seam in the middle of the sink with granite?
i just had my granite installed this past wknd. I also have an L shaped Kitchen. Mine is 1 piece.
If i paid ALL that money and they broke IT, the specific slab THAT I had picked out, I would have demanded another slab entirely. I would not let them install a broken slab. Yes, it is a man made stone, and can break easily, which is WHY i am paying $60 a square foot (the stone itself is probab only $20) to have a PROFESSIONAL install and NOT break it, I AM MAD FOR you. OMG! I would try to get $ off or report them to the BBB. Thats just BS, sorry your going thru this.

You have no idea the half of it. Some of the things said to me had me fuming but I never got nasty or even loud. I can keep my cool.
Exactly the economy is in the crapper but they think it's pure gold that they are selling. We got this place through word of mouth. Which stops with us.
Yeah the seam better be 1/16th of an inch and the grout between better look good. The extra piece is from our slab so it has the same solor pattern but it better not look stupid or i'm not paying.

Exactly it was brought as one piece. I never asked for it to be one piece. They messed up and i'l deal with a small seam. We fell in love with the slab and the piece they are adding is from our slab. I am mad for myself but if it doesn't look right we will see what happens. She said we will cross that bridge if it comes. We didn't ask for any discount on the granite only to pay cash and that was all. Professional..lol this place is anything but that. We have come to an agreement of some money off. They took 50% off of the sink that I purchased from them. So sorry there goes all their markup so they really didn't give me anything off. Thank you for the response. I will be sure to let everyone know how this one plays out. DW and I are beyond ******.

Re: Anybody have a seam in the middle of the sink with granite?
I wouldn't accept it, no way, no how.
My FIL is a kitchen designer and he never has to have a seam in the middle of the sink.
Their fault=they need to eat the cost.
The largest continuous slab in my kitchen is over 8 feet long, no seam... my MIL's longest piece must be about 13 feet long no seam.
Completely unacceptable that they "make" you take it.

Mine is 13ft, no seam.
You already PAID for the insurance in case something happened to the granite, thats included in the installation price. This is their fault and should be held responsible....they should be bending over backwards for you!!!!

Re: Anybody have a seam in the middle of the sink with granite?
I had to have one seam, and had a choice of 3 places to put it, sink, cooktop, or diagonal in the corner, I was very against the seam being on the sink or cooktop and i am happy we put it in the corner.
Like everyone else said, if its their fault do not accept it! Your paying alot of money and they should make it perfect

Re: Anybody have a seam in the middle of the sink with granite?
We have an L shaped kitchen also. Our place asked for our sink when we placed the order. They cut the hole out prior to delivery so it would fit perfectly. I would not accept it. Esp. since it's near the sink. I'm sure they do a good job covering up, but it would bother me. That's a place everyone sees. It's their fault..it happens, but they should give you a new piece.

I agree. Ours is a little over 14 feet and we do not have a seam. It took us a while to find a slab that big (b/c DH was against having a seam anyway), but we found it. And if it was broke.......I would be livid.
I am so sorry you are going thru this and I can only Imagine the rage you and your wife are going thru.
But.......IMO, that is terrible customer service. Love how they tried to turn it around and make you have no choice but to have a seam. I'd say.....Keep the f'ng granite. YOu dropped it, and broke it.......you Keep it!
I know its too late for you to do any of that..........but since you are paying cash........and you owe them a last payment........I would refrain from giving them all of it...especially if its a cash deal....

Re: Anybody have a seam in the middle of the sink with granite?
Honestly, I wouldn't accept it.
Tell them to sue you for the cost if they are being that way.
You can in turn sue them for the replacement from another reputable dealer.
What crap that is!
