Anybody not able to put convertible car seat in middle

I know that's where it should go but when we put it there I couldn't see out the back of my car hardly at all Chat Icon which I felt like definitely wouldn't be safe for my daughter if I can't drive safely, right?

Our convertible seat was always behind the passenger side, even before we had two. I wouldn't worry about it!

Mine is not quite in the middle, but not all the way to the side. I had it installed at the Police Department. So I feel ok with it.

None of my kids are in the middle... my 2 yr old DD is on the driver side and my 5 month old DD is on the passenger side (I have captains seats, so there is no middle seat in the 2nd row) and my son is in the 3rd row on the passenger side

How is not in one of the standard 3 locations? Since it attaches so tightly to either the seatbelts, or the LATCH, it seems strange that it isn't either in the exact center, or very much to one side or the other.

I haven't put ours in yet - but I will be putting behind the passenger seat.
I am only 5" 2' so I won't be able to see over it

When DH first installed our convertible in the center I couldn't see out of the rear window either.

I brought it to the police department for inspection - they took it out and reinstalled it in the middle but soooo much lower. It's now on a 45degree angle (vs. 90 where I had it) and I can see perfectly.

I have NO idea what they did differently. I have the Britax Marathon.

I have 2 babies, so needless to say, it was impossible to use the middle. Don't beat yourself up about itChat Icon

I don't have mine in the middle either. When I went to the police dept. to have it installed, they said that the LATCH anchors are intended to be used in the rear driver's side and rear passengers side. They said that you are supposed to use the "set" of anchors together -- you aren't supposed to use the right one from passenger side and the left one from the driver side to put the seat in the middle, even though many people do it this way.

They are partially correct. While it is bad to grab a connector from different sets, many cars have 3 sets of LATCH points, so LATCH is absolutely intended for the middle, as long as the car (mine included) has the proper connectors.

My car has 3 sets of latches and 3 tethers.

That's what I was talking about -- using a connector from different sets. This isn't an issue if your car has 3 sets, which many (mine included) do not. I suppose in minivans and the bigger SUVs they might have 3, but I have a Murano, and our other car was a Sonata, and they each only had 2 sets.
