Anyone christen an older baby?

DD is 8 months and we haven't had her christened. We're not church-goers, and not overly religious, although we both went to Sunday school & church when we were younger. We're not "anti-church" or anything, we just didn't christen her yet and said we'd talk about it.

How late is too late to christen her?

My OOT family will be in town in May, DD will be almost 11 months. Is it weird to do it too late?

If we do something, it will literally be immediate family members, so a total of probably 10 people. We'll do the christening and then go out to a nice dinner with the small group.

Thoughts?

I am not religious, and DH is (sort of) and I told him that I had no problem with him getting Christopher christened, but it was his job to get it done....

He is over 10 months and it hasn't been done yet!Chat Icon

DS is not christened yet either.

We don't belong to a church and I have no godfather or godmother for him.

I can't use any of DH's family. He is Jewish.

Re: Anyone christen an older baby?

Noah was christened on his first birthday!

His hat was a little tight and he tried to crawl away up the aisle while the priest was talking... but it was fantastic nonetheless.

Here are pics... he started in his Christening outfit for the morning and the ceremony and then we changed him into a birthday outfit for the party part of things!

DD will be 8 months old when we do it. We waited purely for selfish reasons - we wanted to have the party at our house so we wanted to wait til summer. Chat Icon

It's never too late! We just had our DS's baptism last weekend and he's also 8 mos. We had friend and family over to our house and had the food catered. It was great! Chat Icon

It's never too late. I have a friend who still hasn't baptised his 17 month old baby - now, I would imagine it's going to be hard to squeeze him into one of those Christening outfits sold! Chat Icon

Re: Anyone christen an older baby?

Our DD will be christened when she is 7 months old. She was in the hospital for 5 weeks, then she came home in October, it was too tight to plan it around the holidays, so we waited.

Not at all we baptized DD at 4 months - but a month or two before us there were three babies - one 15 months, one I think 11 months and another 2 months (the 15 month old and the 2 month old were brother and sister). It is never too late.
