Anyone else a little nervous about their hospital stay when they give birth?
I've never been in the hospital overnight. I've been in and out for things here and there but never an overnight stay. I know it's a "happy" stay and not there for being sick or anything but I'm feeling a little nervous. Anyone else feel this way too? Or am I just totally crazy?

Just crashing. I know how you feel. First and ONLY time I was in the hospital b4 my boys was when I was 3 and broke my fingers. Other than that I've been to hospitals to visit sick people.
The maternity ward is so different and very happy. The nurses are sooo caring and there for you. Everything is cute with pink and blue, pple visiting with flowers, balloons and stuffed animals (my SIL brought a HUGE bear that was bigger than a person). it really is a happy and positive environment. I had 2 DS's and both experiences are nice Take advantage of the time to cuddle with the baby, see family, asking questions from the nurses and TAKING as much stuff as possible Good luck!

crashing here too but I agree with previous poster, it is such a happy environment when you are in the marternity unit. It was my first hospital stay as well and I had a very positive experience, DS and I were very well taken care of and everyone is happy and helpful.

Re: Anyone else a little nervous about their hospital stay when they give birth?
I feel the same way, which is why DH promised to stay with me throughout my entire hospital stay. I do not want to be left there alone at any time. I have been in the hospital before to visit others, and when I broke my arm. It scares me to death and I don't like it. I am happy knowing DH will be by my side in case of anything. And I think are nerves are justified, labor and delivery is a big thing. But I also think once we are there we will be too happy, too emotional, too tired, too in pain, or too drugged out to be nervous anymore. So just think how that one emotion will be the last one on the list when you are actually there.

Re: Anyone else a little nervous about their hospital stay when they give birth?
I had never stayed in a hospital before my first DS either. I was very nervous. It is really nothing to worry about. Once you go into labor, you are concentrating so much on just getting through labor and having a baby. Once the baby arrives, you are just so excited. Worries about staying overnight go out the window. I didn't like having a roomate, but I didn't have a very good one. But you are in and out really quick if you have a Vag delivery. Your days go by so quick with doctors, nurses coming in, visitors, paperwork and of course taking care of DC. You will be fine!

Make sure the hosptial is delivering at allows your DH to stay. The hosptial I will be delivering at does allow husbands to stay, but I know the first hospital I delivered DS at did not allow anyone to stay overnight. I didn't have DH stay, but I knew that was a rule.

Ditto. A lot of hospitals do not let husbands stay overnight. Even though I had a private room at Good Sam, DH had to leave by about 10pm no matter what.
I never stayed overnight in a hospital before either and felt nervous. But in the end, you forget the nerves because in reality the nurses are coming in all the time for vital checks, administering meds, etc. I actually enjoyed the peaceful overnight when I could rest, because all day long people were coming to visit and I was exhausted.

Re: Anyone else a little nervous about their hospital stay when they give birth?
I was nervous as well, I had never stayed in the hospital.
Everyone is so nice and it was such a whirlwind, I didn't even think about how I was there alone once I got there. The nurses are only a click of a button away and I was so tired both nights, I slept very easily.
I sent DH home because I thought he'd be more comfy in our bed than a chair bed that was provided for him in the hospital. I wanted to make sure he was well rested for what was to come when the baby and I got home.

Re: Anyone else a little nervous about their hospital stay when they give birth?
Thanks girls for all the positive responses. I don't know if the hospital will let DH stay overnight or not but even if they did, I don't want him to. For one, he has to go home and take care of our dog. And two, I just wouldn't want him to stay overnight. I'd feel bad for him. I guess I am just a little nervous about being alone but you girls are right - I'm sure the nurses will be in and out all night so I really won't be that alone anyway.

I know exactly how you feel. We went for the hospital tour last weekend and that is when it hit me "this will be the first time I will be admitted". It totally freaked me out!

Re: Anyone else a little nervous about their hospital stay when they give birth?
yeah i was WAY nervous. I hadn't stayed in a hospital before. I refused to look at my hand with the ivblock - thats how big a baby I was......
I ended up having 2 nights in L&D, then 2 nights in the regular maternity ward. The enviroment is so calm there. you will be so distracted on the baby

I'm scared too. I have had two surgeries before that I was able to go home that day and there is no way to go home early now. I'm right there with ya.

Re: Anyone else a little nervous about their hospital stay when they give birth?
I am a little nervous too. I've only been in the hospital as a patient once, last year, for a D&C. I've never stayed overnight, and I don't think DH can stay with me at South Nassau (anyone know the answer to this). I hate being alone at night, but I'm sure I'll be so exhausted from giving birth, and so focused on the baby that it will be okay.

Re: Anyone else a little nervous about their hospital stay when they give birth?
The only time I was ever a patient at a hospital was for my birth When I was in labor I was asked when my last hospital stay was a bunch of times and I kept saying 29 yrs ago
It is normal to be a little weary of the unknown but I had DS @ NS Manhasset and it was a wonderful experience, the staff is wonderful and the private room rocked.
GOOD LUCK

Re: Anyone else a little nervous about their hospital stay when they give birth?
I was with my first, this time not so much. Stony brook is SOOO nice! Can't wait to meet my little guy
Now leaving my DD with my ILs is another story. They never listen to anything we say and I'm afraid DD will be a tired, hungry, cranky mess when she gets to meet her little brother

Re: Anyone else a little nervous about their hospital stay when they give birth?
This is my 2nd DS and I was so scared to be in the hospital with DS#1 but it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be....
People were visiting through out the day so the days flew and at night dont get me wrong I did not get the best sleep but it was fine.
Totally understandable about being nervous...but like you said it is for a great reason!
Right now I am nervous about how I will deliver. DS #1 was vaginally and now I am just scared I will have a C for this one for some reason.....so I am more scared for the unknown...
It will all be AWESOME when you are holding you DC!
