Anyone else addicted to diet soda?

I recently had my yearly check up and my Doctor really let me have it. I KNOW how bad it is, but I really am addicted.

I start my day with a Diet Coke, like other people do with a cup of coffee. If I am stressed out, I need one. I loooooooooove diet soda!!!!

How much do you drink in a day? Anyone try to quit and have any success?

lets see.. i had a can for breakfast..... 2 with lunch.... another while cleaning and 1 with dinner..... if i had to pick one thing to drink its a hard toss up between water and Diet Coke...

its bad for the teeth and bad for the stomach.

i have it only when I go out, I stopped buying it for the house, and at work. I use to drink it alot. Then one day my dad passed out at work(well twice actually) and when he went to the drs it was thought that drinking the huge bottle of soda each day might be the culprit. Well my dad learned that when the diet soda is broken down you get methanol(wood alcohol) and then you get formaldehyde. Which got me thinking, why do I want all these chemicals when I should be drinking pure things. So I started drinking more water, and more recently green tea.

I drink diet soda every day, but it's not a must. I have at most 2 cans - one at lunch and one at dinner. I don't need it and if it isn't in the house, I am fine. I drink Vitamin Water Zero and Crystal Light as well.

DH was addicted. Just like you, the first thing I would hear every morning is the popping open of a can of Diet Coke. He could easily drink 8-12 cans a day. Every day. I would tell him how bad it is. He would respond "at least it's not beer" Then one day he said don't buy him anymore, he started drinking more water and Vitamin Water Zero and now only has a diet coke here and there. HE's done well, but it took him a long time to get there!

I used to drink diet coke constantly, and it really was an addiction - I gave it up for Lent a few times and was successful, but I would have actual cravings for it, it was awful! I cut down significantly a few years ago when I started seeing a nutritionist and personal trainer. I'm drinking more of it again since then, but nowhere near as much as I used to - I can generally stick to one can a day at most.

I watched a documentary about artificial sweetners and it was pretty scary and it talked about people getting addicted to it. My DH used to love drinking it and got me to for a little while as well but after watching the film and seeing that it was linked to causing brain tumors, we both stopped. I'd rather drink regular or something else.

I drink WAY too much. It's horrible. Mainly i drink it a bunch when i am dieting because its something that will hold me over instead of eating something..but i LOVE it.

We just got back from disney..they had refillable 20 ounces mugs..I think i filled my cup 8 times a day...not good...I want to stop drinking it or at least cut back but i swear its like crack. (and its the only thing i've ever been addicted to, so i guess i rationalize in my mind it could be worse!)

One thing I have tried is to substitute some of the soda for a can of lemon lime seltzer..I think the carbonation helps. I am going to try this starting today, I know diet soda is realllly bad for me.

My husband and I are both diet coke addicts, we go through a two litre bottle probably, every two days. I try to keep other soft drinks in the fridge to drink, and its pretty easy to reach for something else, BUT we have a teensy tiny fridge, and sometimes there isn't enough room for my pitcher of Vimto or my bottle of seltzer, so diet coke and milk always win.

I am trying not to drink so much!

When I was pregnant I cut back to one a day... before that I think I had like 6 a day. Now I have maybe 2 cans of diet pepsi daily.
I don't drink coffee so that's what I start off with in the morning.

I drink it a few times a week. Mostly water though.

I was a Diet Coke for breakfast person since I was a teen. I quit 10 years ago because I wanted to get pregnant.

Cold turkey works best for me. I had a severe headache for a few weeks, which I managed with it by drinking tons of water. I didn't want to start taking Advil or anything else because then I'd have another thing to stop taking.

I do agree with the poster re: the UTIs. I had a problem with them too but never knew about the connection.

Also,I lost weight after I stopped drinking diet soda & started opting for water (NOT vitamin water).

yup DH and I are addicted. We go through 2-3 bottles a day in my house.
Plus the cans be bring to work.

I am addicted. I hate coffee, so Diet Pepsi gets me through my overnight shifts and every other day.

It was one thing I didn't know I had to stop drinking when I got pregnant. I was ready to stop drinking alcohol, but nearly died when I found out I had to stop my Diet Pepsi.

I am def addicted. I have a cup of coffee in the morning and then it's Diet Coke for the rest of the day! It's bad. A New Years resolution that I made was to wean myself off of it.

I try not to have more than 2 a day.

I don't drink or smoke...so I figure if this is the worst I do...I'm doing alright

DH probably drinks at least 3 a day. I'm a coffee addict though, so who am I to judge!

i was totally addicted especially after i quit coffee. it started affecting my stomach really badly so now I only drink it on occasion. it was hard to quit but it would make me feel so bad so it was a little easier than quitting coffee.

Is diet snapple as bad as diet soda?

I hav recently gained a little weight. I LOVE snapple so have switched to diet snapple now. I ahve one a day, maybe. I drink it with dinner.

But my DH drinks diet soda like water.

I didnt realize it was that bad for you.l

Yes, I think the only times I've had migraines were as a result of not having a diet coke in over a 24 hour period.
