Just used the Burger King drive thru for a diet soda...
I almost passed out in my car from what I read! They now have the calorie counts under each menu item. Some things were 2,100 calories!!!! I swear I was in shock and I could not even drive - thank God there was no one behind me to beep me. I can't believe I used to eat that stuff! I guess some people can eat like that and not gain weight but I am certainly not one of those people - I took my diet soda and that's quite enough from BK for me!

Re: Just used the Burger King drive thru for a diet soda...
I googled Burger Kings menu and there are a LOT of items that are suprising. A large shake is over 900 calories. Half the breakfast items are over 400 calories. The triple whopper with cheese and mayo is 1230. ewwwwwww
calories

I guess the 2100 I saw was the entire meal - burger and fries together. DISGUSTING!!!!! Looks like I will be having a ketchup packet and a bottle of water

Re: Just used the Burger King drive thru for a diet soda...
i read an article recently that said a SALAD at friday's has around 1,600 calories!!!!! A SALAD!!!!!
i can't remember the facts exactly since it has been so long since i saw super size me but omg some of the "healthy" items on the mcd's menu are RIDICULOUS -- i mean, SO fattening. it is scary - that's why i just don't eat at those places anymore. it's like no matter how hard you try you just can't eat healthy w/ those places.
ETA: i don't eat at "fast food" places anymore but i still give in to places like friday's but i try to go not that often lol and i will avoid the pecan chicken salad or whatever it is called like the plague LOL

I was at the Yankee game tonight and when we went to get food at one of the grill stands, we noticed the same thing...all the calorie counts listed. we still got what we wanted but I felt really guilty!

It's a new law -- all places have to post the calories with the menu items. It really does put things in perspective.

As long as it's a national chain with over 15 units.

I believe it is a city law. I think LI franchises are exempt but I could be wrong.

I had a 370 calorie Whopper Junior in Bayside, Queens today. All calorie counts were right next to the items. The Taco Bell in New Hyde Park had no calorie count listed at all.

Does that mean the taco bell had zero calories?

They even have the calories posted at the concessions at Shea Stadium now. I liked the chicken fingers and fries a lot more before I knew. I mean, I knew they weren't a good food choice, but I really enjoyed being semi-ignorant about just how AWFUL they are for me!

I personally will likely still eat what I want if I am not on a diet. I think it's ok to live a little! I am sure most things we all eat out are terrible for us.

Re: Just used the Burger King drive thru for a diet soda...
I liked it better before they started posting the calories - I knew things were bad for me, but having it right in my face is disturbing.
I was discussing this with a coworker the other day, and we were saying that I doubt the people who eat this stuff every day are affected by it - they don't care. Its the people who generally eat healthy and eat this stuff once in awhile that see the calorie counts and walk out. I have a muffin from Dunkin Donuts maybe once every other month. I went in there awhile back and saw the muffin was over 600 calories. I couldnt do it, I walked out. But I honestly think most of the people who have a muffin or donut every day are still doing it.

Good points, ITA. I only eat certain things once a week or so, so it won't stop me. I already know the calorie content of many things since I had done WW about 10 years ago to lose a few nagging lbs. While I was on WW, I still ate McDonalds, etc, during the week, but just limited my portions. That's really what it comes down to, portion control and not eating certain things too often.
So for me, seeing it won't discourage me too much if I only eat that item once in a while.
