Anyone else have GHI insurance through NYC?
I called GHI to find out about breast pump coverage. Apparently their other plans cover it but not the plan that I'm covered under (DH works for the City of NY).
I found this on their website regarding the Health Care Reform:
q. Which emblemHealth plans are affected?
A. The women’s preventive care services benefits apply to members with non-grandfathered, commercial health coverage, whether insured or self-insured. They apply to both the individual and group (small and large) markets. The benefits do not apply to members enrolled in: Medicare; Medicaid; limited benefits coverage such as dental only and vision only; the NY Bridge Plan; or grandfathered plans, such as the City of New York, certain Healthy New York plans and certain standard HMO individual direct payment plans
I just don't understand WHY or HOW they can cover breast pump supplies only under certain plans. Doesn't it defeat the whole purpose of making healthcare affordable!? It makes me so mad

A recent nys mandate will cover it but not until your anniversary date I think after Jan 2013. Mines not till April 2013, and I will have needed it way before that.

Good question! I have GHI though nyc UFT (teachers union). How do you find that out?

This is what I heard also and they only cover a certain kind of breast pump that you have to order thru a company they have a contract with. Sorry I don't have the details but I can try to find out!
