anyone else have/had placenta previa
I was diagnosed with it at 15 weeks (i'm almost 18 now) and haven't had a sono since, but am scheduled for one at week 21. Doc said we might see a change at that point, but maybe not until 28 weeks.
I was on bedrest for a week when I first found out (spotting) and have been on pelvic rest since (and will be on it until the placenta changes position).
Just wondering how many of you are on pelvic rest and what your limits are (my doc said no exercise except walking and swimming and no sex). Also has your doc done anything to monitor the previa -- do they expect it to change. My doc keeps calling it a "threatened miscarriage" which is scaring me.

Re: anyone else have/had placenta previa
I was diagnosed at 16 weeks. I had spotting and then my doctor told me to take it easy- no lifting, limited exercise(light walking OK but not long), and pelvic rest(no sex). I was told pelvic rest until my 20 week sono to see if it has moved. I'll be going for that this week. My doctor said it was still very early and it can move. If it hasn't at 20 weeks then they will closely monitor me as I get closer to my due date. Hopefully I won't be put on bedrest but that is a possibility if it doesn't move and spotting continues. If it still hasn't moved then a c-section. I'll have the baby 3 weeks earlier. There was no mention of miscarriage. My doctor told me not to worry at this point but take care of myself and let DH do EVERYTHING:) He has had enough of this pelvic rest.

Re: anyone else have/had placenta previa
I go to a high risk Dr as well as an OB/Gyn. WIth that said The high risk Dr has very sophisticated sonogram equipment and I was diagnosed with placenta previa @ like 6 or 7weeks which is early.( no lifitng, sex, take it easy with the bending etc.) Basically told to take it easy.
As far as monitering the condition, I am not sure what they do b/c I go for sonograms every 2 weeks anyway to my high risk Dr and 1X a month to my OB/gyn. ( sorry , I am not very helpful with that question)
At about 13 weeks I was told it had moved.
The Dr said that this condition is VERY common and a lot of time moves out of the way.

Re: anyone else have/had placenta previa
I have it, on pelvic rest, no exercising, and I've spotted twice, the second time being a lot and very scary. But both times it stopped within 3 days. My Dr. also said its very common and in most instances it moves out of the way as your uterus grows. My FIL and SIL are also obgyns and they see this all the time. With my bleeding both times they were not concerned and just told me to take it easy and that it should move by 28 weeks.

Re: anyone else have/had placenta previa
I was diagnosed at the ultrascreen (13 weeks) and I was told no lifting over 25 lbs and no BDing. I was told that at the Level II they can check the progress to see if it moved but they wont be really concerned til 28 weeks or so.

Re: anyone else have/had placenta previa
Does this make anyone cramp at all? I cramp alot. But I also BD and lift Juliette all the time so I wonder if this is just making matters worse? No one realized this until my level 2 but I was put on bedrest for a week in February-week 11-for cramping.

Re: anyone else have/had placenta previa
I had it. I think I was diagnosed at my sono at 19 weeks. I was not allowed to lift anything heavy, no sex, no exercise either. At about 27 weeks it started to move up and by 30weeks? it had moved all the way up.

Re: anyone else have/had placenta previa
Thanks everyone -- it makes me feel better to hear what other doc's have recommended. My doc tried to reassure me that "threatened mc" was just a category and it doesn't necessarily mean that anything will go wrong.
DH tends to focus on the neg (and especially about things that would have happened 100 years ago -- don't ask, he's a historian), so he talks about worst case scenarios sometimes. I know he's just trying to make me be careful, but it only tends to scare me when I can't sleep at night.
Also one of our friends got diagnosed with this at the very end of her pregnancy and had to have a C-section -- I know lots of times when it is diagnosed early it moves and there is no need for a Cs, but now I keep thinking about Cs.

Yep. Complete previa here. Anytime I go to the hospital they have to put "threatened mc" on the diagnosis/discharge papers. Scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it.
I have to get a c-section & we are trying to get it in l&d. It has been one heck of a process. Most times (I think 80 % or better) the placenta migrates as your uterus expands. Mine did not, but I had other "issues" that made that happen. There is still a 30% chance for mine to have moved since the last IV sono, but I am not holding my breath.
Every week at my appointment I am waiting for my Dr to tell me that I have to stop working & go on bed rest. We play it by ear....as long as all of your HC providers know about it, then they can take precautions to ensure that they do not aggravate the condition.
Oh, and the worst-case scenarios are truly only 1% of the time. They are so rare & so far-fetched as real outcomes....I know I read web MD ( which I do NOT recommend for this) and it scared the poop out of me

Re: anyone else have/had placenta previa
My SIL had this-she had a severe case and ended up in the hospital on bedrest for 6 weeks(from 29 weeks on) Her son was taken by C at 35 weeks and is a perfect 3 yr old. Again her case was very severe and she could not even walk upstairs! Just take it easy. If you see any blood get to the Dr or hospital ASAP! If the previa is still there when you are ready to give birth you will have a C but it is safer than a vag. birth because of bleeding. GL
