I personally hate rides and waiting online... that's all i think about when I think of Disney. If it's hot out, I'd rather be on the beach or on the pool.

Re: Anyone else just NOT interested in going to Disney?

I've been to Disney many times - as an adult and as a child, even went to Disneyland Paris (as a tagalong with a friend who won a trip there).

Its not something I get excited about. It would never be my first vacation choice (or even in my top 10).

Our kids have been there only because a business trip brought us to Orlando, so we hit up Disney while there. They were young (3.5 & 1.5) and it was freezing, and they weren't that into it.

I'm sure they would get more out of it now that they're older, but I'm in no rush to go back. My parents have been talking about taking them...

No desire to take the kids any time soon.

What puts me off Disney is the amount of PLANNING that seems to be needed. Recently I toyed with the idea of going. Looked at the travel board and saw post after post devoted to Disney-related strategies. Strategies for booking what restaurants you're going to eat at (6 months in advance! WTF!), and it only got more complicated regarding those character meals. Strategies for picking a hotel (will you use a rental car? bus? monorail? hovercraft?) and then finding obscure codes to get discounts. Strategies for attacking each park, starting at "rope drop" (I still have no idea what that is). It all seemed so overwhelming. Bin Laden's assassination was probably planned with less precision than some of these Disney trips.

So I said screw it. We're spending a week by a lake instead Chat Icon

if this is all that is keeping you from going - I would say pick a less busy time to go and book through a TA who is a disney expert - this way THEY do ALL the work for you. Some people really enjoy planning - I love to plan vacations in general - be it Europe, a cruise or disney - it is just fun for me to do the research - BUT it totally isn't for everyone. I know plenty of people who go and wing it and have a great time too. But if you don't like to plan go to a TA (important that they are a disney expert) - THEY will figure out what hotel is best for you, they will book your dining for you, and they will even help you plan what parks to go to etc. Then you just show up, relax and have fun.

But again - like cruises or anything else it ISN"T for everyone.

I totally agree with this. Some of us LOVE doing this planning, and will gladly do it all for you, so all you have to do is show up. I could plan Disney itineraries all day, so I decided to make a job out of itChat Icon

Definitely work with a Disney Specialist no matter what. I learned that the hard way and it's why I decided to become a Disney TA myself. Other people just don't have the training and experience.

im sure i will HAVE to take them at some point but im not looking forward to it..all of that stuff is not for me.

and you know what- its just as expensive as a vacation to europe or the caribbean.

id much rather do that.

but i do know they would love it, so i dont want to deprive them.

maybe i can get the grand parents to take them....

Chat Icon Love you Mel! Chat Icon

I have taken DD, twice. for a day only trip to MK and Epcot. we got a deal with a pass from employee. I wont go again until the boys are old enough to remember it.

Its ok. I just feel its something the kids may enjoy and that is wy we go.

Re: Anyone else just NOT interested in going to Disney?

Disney is not MY idea of a vacation. it's something I will do for my son, b/c I know he will LOVE it but it will be done, once, MAYBE twice if he asks for it again.

I want him to be young enough to really feel the magic but old enough to remember he went Chat Icon so we are taking him for his 5th birthday. I am trying to arrange it so that the whole family will come with us and make it his party but we'll see.

I would much rather take him down the Fairy Tale Road in Germany, to the Bruder Grimm museum, to Sleeping Beauty's castle and the Neuschwanstein so he can see the real places and hear the real stories the way they were told in the folklore of that region forever.

Disney as a company is a bit questionable in it's procurement practices for it's movies...as recently as the Lion King it appears they are stealing ideas from other people and smaller studios. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth, no matter how fun of a place it is for children.

ETA: while we were in Florence he was able to see real Gepetto's and Pinocchio's. they were so cute. THAT is what I want to expose him to. the real stuff. the roots.

DH is not interested in going to Disney.

DH and I are both not amusement park people. We never went to one amusement park the entire time we dated and were married prior to kids.

I love seeing DS's eyes light up when we go to places like Dutch Wonderland and Sesame Place. He has SO much fun.

Re: Anyone else just NOT interested in going to Disney?

If we didn't live so close we would have never gone. It's not the type of vacation I would choose, but since our friends come down every year from NY and go for a week we meet up with them for a weekend since we're only 2.5 hours away. If we continue to live here I'm sure we'll continue to go once a year since I can see how much DD goes crazy over everything.

I never went as a kid (we did caribbean vacations, cruises, all-inclusives and I have the best memories from those vacations) and my first time there I was in my mid-20's.

Re: Anyone else just NOT interested in going to Disney?

I went to Disney World as a kid but that was it. We now live 30 minutes away from Disneyland and my kids have been once. It is just too expensive and unless you go in January, always crowded.
We just bought a season pass to Knott's Berry Farm insteadChat Icon Less crowds, lots of stuff for my kids to go on and enjoy, they let you bring in food(not supposed to but they do) and I see what you mean. I just don't get it eitherChat Icon

We have never done WDW, but have gone to Disneyland a few times. We are able to do it easier when we go see friends and family out west. It's also smaller and easier to do a few days.

The last time we went my kids wanted to spend more time at the Lego store than in Disney...so we're not planning a return trip until the little girl can enjoy it and the boys will be able to go to the bigger kid parks.

Just be careful, moms.

I didn't get to go to Disney World as a child. My first trip was at age 20 with my DH. I won't tell you how many trips I've been on since then Chat Icon

The point is, if you don't take your kids when they are children, they might become totally Disney-obsessed adults.

Let me be your cautionary tale! Chat Icon

I will say that I had more fun as DisneyLAND as an adult with my niece than I did at DisneyWorld as a teenager with my own family Chat Icon

your tack, "cautionary tale" is good. Chat Icon Chat Icon

you know what they say "Hakuna Matata". whatever floats your boat and all that.

we are not exactly jumping to take the kids. Me and my DH have gone (I have been a good amount of times) and while I liked it, we don't feel it's neccesary at this point (our kids are 2 and 4.5). We are thinking in another 2-3 years we will take them. I went when I was 6.5 and barely rememeber it. There is plenty of time for disney

Re: Anyone else just NOT interested in going to Disney?

It's me and my husband that want to go. I've never been and DH only once to Disneyland at a very young age. My DD at 2.5 has no desire and tells us "No, Sesame Place" when we ask or tell her about Disney World.
