Anyone else NOT buying baby furniture?
Curious if I am alone here. I am a design snob. And a cheapo. I would love to talk modern/ alterate nursery design with some other moms to be. I found a great mid century modern dresser on craigs list- going to see it on Saturday. Currently I am working with my good old frind Laurie to design some sort of closet situation- the room is closetless. Anyone? Heres the dresser-

Re: Anyone else NOT buying baby furniture?
I'm buying baby furniture but something that will carry through to the teenage years so nothing babyish. As of now i'm just buying a crib and armoire since he won't have his own room for at least a year. But the crib turns into a full size bed.
Now that I re-read your post...this doesn't answer your question at all...lol.

Re: Anyone else NOT buying baby furniture?
I like your style! I hate seeing the same style nursery furniture in every baby's room. I am getting hand me downs from my brother, but want to do something different with the walls and materials.
Are you keeping the finish of the dresser or painting it?
Are you building a buit in closet into the wall or designing an armoire?

Re: Anyone else NOT buying baby furniture?
It just blows my mind- I feel lik eyou are so grossly overcharged for "baby" anything. We found a beautiful armiore at BBB, it was fargin $1200! Rediculous.

Re: Anyone else NOT buying baby furniture?
I'd like to buy pieces of good quality that aren't geared towards babies. I'd like something that the child will grow into.
I'm also not into a baby-ish nursery...I'm definitely going more modern.

Re: Anyone else NOT buying baby furniture?
Oh- totally bought a new crib- can't scrimp on that. I bought this one- super plain- in white.
Thanks Christine! I think I will leave the finish- the room is alreday painted beige on bottom, stripe of turquoise, and white on top. I htink the light wood would compliment the white furniture. For a closet I am torn- the room is real small, so these are some of my thoughts so far...
Also thinking of mounting closet organizers in a corner behind a shoji screen... Maybe extending form the edge of this bookcase to the wall...

I am having the hardest time with a rocker- they are all overstuffed or too glidery. This site is great for stealing ideas.

If you're into that look, then you may really like Svan products. I'm getting the Svan highchair (in whitewash and pink cushion).
Check it out: Svan

Oooh- mama like the Svan. I was thinking of registering for this one, but there's no recline feature, and I could see a recline being useful.

Re: Anyone else NOT buying baby furniture?
We're not for a few reasons. First, I am borrowing a friend's crib which has hardly been used since her son refuses to sleep in it. It is practically brand new. I am also borrowing a changing table.
Second, when I buy furniture, I would rather spend the money on things that my child will use for a longer period of time.
Third, we are renting, hoping to buy a house soon and I would rather wait to see what kind of space we will be furnishing before we buy anything.
I am also shocked at how much some of this stuff is!

I think the Svan totally goes with the look of your kitchen (and you can match the wood!).
I like the Flair though too!

Re: Anyone else NOT buying baby furniture?
I think the Svan or the Stokke Tripp Trapp would be perfect for your kitchen. I want the Stokke.
I can't find a glider or rocker that I like enough to spend that money on and put in my room. I really (reallyreallyreally) want this (even though it doesn't rock or glide - it is so super comfortable ):
And it's eco-friendly

I want to say in the $250 range. It's on the expensive side, but it's totally registerable! I'm registered for it at BBB. Not sure if BRU carries it. It wasn't on either website, so you'd have to call the store.

Re: Anyone else NOT buying baby furniture?
I didn't buy baby furniture and I have what I think is a kind of modern crib in blue (not purple) and I have a dresser from Ikea. I hope to change the bedroom as he grows and to do that, its not worth it to spend tons of money. Also, I highly recommend the stokke Trip Trapp I have the copy of the Stokke by Babydan and its sooooooooo much better than any other highchair on the market. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Anyone else NOT buying baby furniture?
I am so not into baby furniture. We are redoing most pieces...its taking time finding the perfect ones, but its fun at the same time.
I could not get over the lack of quaility for the price that was being charged.
