anyone else paranoid about taking newborn in the sun?

It's such a beautiful day out but I'm completely paranoid about taking DS for a walk.

I'm completely paranoid about him being under the sun since his stroller shade just doesn't do it.

I feel like even if his little hands are exposed they'll get burnt bc the sun's so strong.

I ordered the Ray Shade but would love to take him outside before that since I have no clue when it will be shipped.

Anyone else overly concerned or am I just an overly paranoid first time parent?

Maybe I can take him out after 3PM?

I'm careful about this, and I would ask your doctor about using sunscreen in moderation even if DC is under 6 months. Mine preferred that I didn't use it, but she did say it's not really harmful to babies if you don't slather it on. So when he's in direct sun, I put a little on to protect him. I also put a hat on him and I have the ray shade, which looks strange, but it helps.

Also, going out early or later in the day is a good idea. It's cooler too, so DC won't overheat. And a very short walk in the sun with intervals of shade is probably okay.

Self-confessed sun paranoid freak here! DD was born last June, I only took her for walks in the late afternoon/evening b/c of the sun (not to mention the heat & humidity). Now, at 11 months, if that girl will even be outside for a second, she's got a hat on and I find the shade ASAP, and if we're in the sun she's got sunblock on before she is even in the sun.

So yes, I can sympathize with your paranoia

Still paranoid at 11 months. DS is extremelly fair (so am I and DH). Walks are either on Morning or late afternoon. Otherwise, I put a blanket to block the sun on his stroller.

I am ordering a stroller parasol today (meant to do it a few weeks ago!! )

I have to go to the store and get him sunscreen also.

me!!!!! i am so frustrated that her legs hang out the sides of her ergo carrier and i am always rigging up blanket covers. she has a large collection of hats for such a little person. i will be asking the ped about sunscreen at our checkup next week.

totally paranoid! When we go for walks we have both of the shades closed on her travel system. I bought her a hat to wear too.

That's totally me. I even put hand mitts on him sometimes!! Yes, I'm psycho.

Yes another paranoid mom here. Dd was born in Feb and I only took her out in the sun either very early morning or late evening during that first summer. Even now that she is 26mths I slather on the sunscreen, hat and protective clothing....such a process but worth it as their skin is so delicate.

last summer i walked with DS before 12 and after 3

if i was out during high sun peak hrs I made sure he was covered

I try to take Joseph out early, around 9 AM, and then keep him in until 4 or so. My pediatrician ok'ed using small amounts of sunscreen on DS once in awhile, as long as it is used very liberally and not that often. We will use Aveeno Baby.

ok - i am a bad mom..when we go out in the stroller i don't even realize that his feet are getting sun until 1/2 hour into our walk. He is only 4 months so i don't put block on him, but i am not very self conscious about the sun. the visor on the stroller doesn't cover his lower legs and feet and as I am reading all of your posts i am becoming very nervous!

I can't be too paranoid since Jenna loves to be outside and going to the park/playground. But I try to sit with Kyle under a tree or a shady area since he can't wear sunscreen yet (5 months).
