Anyone else's 2 year old HATE brushing their teeth? HELP
Gavin used to love brushing his teeth, he would let me do it then he would "brush" too. He wanted to do it himself so badly that I used 2 toothbrushes so he could hold one. Now he screams and throws a tantrum every time. I even got him a Spider Man spin brush but he's terrified of it. He will use it for 2 seconds non-spin and that's it.
Any suggestions?
Oh, and bribery has not worked thus far.

I'm going through this.
I started keeping the toothbrush and toothpaste down stairs and brush during her show. I threaten to turn it off if she doesn't let me brush. She brushes first and then I brush-I get about 20 seconds.

I have to do the same thing, but DH insists that he has to learn to brush his teeth at the sink.....I kind of agree, but when time's not on my side in the morning and I need to get out of the house, I really have to choose my battles......

Re: Anyone else's 2 year old HATE brushing their teeth? HELP
DS gets into phases where he will not let me brush his teeth.
Some things that sometimes work:
I go to the store with him and let him pick out a new toothbrush.
I sit him on my bathroom counter and we brush our teeth together looking into the mirror making faces.
I let him brush my teeth, and then I ask if I can brush his. . .
I wait till he is in the bath and bursh them while he is playing with his bath toys(sometimes a change in routine or timing will help).
Sometimes he loves brushing his teeth, sometimes he will clamp his mouth shut and refuse.

Sometimes ds tells me he doesn't want clean teeth so I make a big deal about how gross the toothpaste is & how it will make his mouth so dirty. He smiles & opens right up!!

Oh we have this battle too... Things that have helped: - the whole family brushes together - we let him put the shower radio on dance while he does it standing on the toilet seat so he can watch himself dance in the mirror (random I know...) - he loves taking his vitamin so he doesnt get it in the morning until he brushes

Re: Anyone else's 2 year old HATE brushing their teeth? HELP
Have the same problem.
I hurt DD's arm trying to hold her arms down to brush her teeth. I gave up on doing that. It's not worth it to me.
So now I just let her "brush" on her own. Which is pretty much chewing on it and sucking the toothpaste off, with occasional brush strokes. But I make sure she's "brushing" with me, so hopefully she will learn to immitate correctly.
Also, DD uses a soft adult toothbrush and she has 4 choices, so she feels in control and like a "big girl".
