Re: Anyone else's DH taking time off when baby arrives?

My DH is taking about a week -- fortunately, my Chat Icon is coming in the summer and all my friends are teachers and live nearby so they will be by often. Plus, my mom lives about 15 minutes away.

I wish DH could stay home longer, but at least I feel like I won't be completely alone Chat Icon

I am hoping a week...but that will be out of vacation time - I don't think he'll be able to get more... and they don't offer paternity, or anything else...Chat Icon

We haven't discussed this yet but DH will probably take a week off (vacation).

What I am hoping is that he will take a few weeks off around the time that I need to go back to work so we can prolong day care as long as possible.

Luckily DH can do a lot of work from home, so I am sure he will be home often while I am on leave.

DH will be home with DD and I for a total of 18 days and I am dreading him going back to work tomorrow. He has been such an amazing dad and has helped out tremendously. We have bonded as a family and this time together has been precious. I highly encourage expecting moms to get their DH's to take time off if possible.

my DH gets a month paternity which he can take whenever he wants. We are still deciding which month b/c he has to take it all at once.

My DH gets 2 weeks paid materinity leave and he's taking it (if its offered to the women it has to be offered to the men as well)Chat Icon

Yeah, its weird, my DH has a federal job, and apparently none of the women or men get FML (or whatever the acronym is)

I thought that was illegal, but apparently a federal job doesn't need to have that...luckily they accrue sick time pretty quickly though, so its not too bad (and his is salary, so he won't lose any pay)

Federal jobs are exempt from certain work related laws, including leave and OSHA.

My mom actually took a week off when DD was born and stayed with me because she came early. DH had his vacation scheduled the week of my due date, so he's home with me now. Chat Icon

Re: Anyone else's DH taking time off when baby arrives?

I'm due the weekend before Thanksgiving, so if all goes well DH will get the whole week off for the holiday, and that will only be 3 days of his actual vaca time. Also my mom is taking a week vaca and driving up from Pittsburgh to help out. I think I will have a full house the first week, its the second week I'm worried about. When everyone is gone and it is just me. Though it might be nice too.

They give him two weeks when the baby is born. Then he can use his vacation days which he has a ton saved up.

DH will take 3 weeks which in his work is 24 days. Then he has vacation time right after that which is another 16 days for him. So DH will be home with me for the first month or so!!!

I think my husband will take a week off.

I wish he could take off more! I need him to keep my 4 year old busy. I think I will be OK with the baby!

My DH works from home whenever he needs too, and his boss will be out of town around the time that I'm due anyway, so most of what they would do would be over the phone anyway. He has already told his boss he would be working primarily from home from mid-December until the first monday in Feb. He will travel to the office and job-sites to meet with clients as needed during that time.
