Anyone else's nationality TOTALLY different than DH/DW?

I am not a drop Italian - not even a little bit and we only have ONE Italian person in our entire family - and he was by marriage to my Mom's AUNT lol so really distant...

I met and married Vinny (lol the most Italian name everrrr) and his Father is from Italy, his Mother's parents were born there so he is - on one side - a first generation American. This was interesting when we first started dating b/c of their traditions, the food, the culture, etc. I enjoyed learning about it but I still feel like a fish out of water sometimes at family functions...

I also stick out like a sore thumb being that I have red hair, pale skin and freckles in a sea of beautiful olive skin and dark, shiny hair.

Anyone else??

I'm 1/2 Italian, 1/2 Polish, and DH is Irish and German.

My maiden name is Italian, but people think I'm Irish because of my light complexion and freckles!

Yes, My Dh is the first person in his immediate family born in the USA. His family is from Guyana and I am white. (Italian and part German). I was nervous about meeting his parents thinking they were going to be so different, and they do have their traditions, ( MIL is Hindu, FIL is Muslim) but Im so used to all of them and actually very interested in them. So the transition wasn't that bad. They are so "Americanized" I forget they are different until SOMEONE ELSE mentions it .

we are completely different and it always comes up.

his family is 100% irish--like some were born there. they can all get sunburned in the middle of the winter and are all pale with blue eyes!

my mom's family is italian and my dad's family is german (blond/blue eyed). i'm olive complexion with dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. my family is your typical LOUD italian family (don't see the german side much) and DH still can't get used to everyone yelling over each other at the table. we get together often, which is the complete opposite of DH's family.

it's always interesting when our families are together

I'm Jewish. My Grandfather was a Rabbi, my Uncle is Chasidic, and an Orthodox Rabbi (black hat, black coat, the whole deal!). I've been told that one of my ancestors wrote a well known book on the Kaballah that is still studied by scholars. Its in Hebrew, so I'll unfortunately never be able to read it, but its still kinda cool to have that in my families history.

DH is Irish, German and Lithuanian. His mom (and his Grandma, before she passed on) goes to church every weekend. He has Priests in his very extended family.

So not only do we have different nationalities, but our marriage is also interfaith.

Yep...I'm 1/2 Italian and 1/2 Polish
My dh is 1/2 Puerto Rican and 1/2 Irish.

I'm 75% Italian and 25% Polish. Kevin is 50% Sicillian and 50% Irish.

Both of us were raised predominately on our Italian sides so we're more alike than different. It's weird bc our last name is Irish but that's about it, we don't celebrate St. Paddy's Day or anything.

DH is 75% Italian, Native American & British.

Completely different! I'm an Italian American and DH is from South East Asia. He was the first one in his family to come to the U.S., his younger brother followed a few years later.

At times, it can be quite interesting to say the least

I'm 100% Filipino and DH's background is Swedish/German. My family is Catholic and we attend mass every Sunday. Dh's family doesnt practice any religion. But I love his family and we get along fabulously!

i'm hispanic, raised by italians. Dh is a mix of irish, scottish and english (they don't even know for sure). i come from a big LOUD family, i have 20 something cousins and numerous aunts and uncles. DH has 2 cousins, one aunt and one uncle.

needless to say, it took a while for him to get used to it all. I don't even think he had all of my sisters names right until after we got married.

Very different!

DH is 75% Italian 25% Puerto Rican.

I am a mix of German, Norwegian, Russian, and Polish.

It will be interesting to see who looks like!

we are the same religion but different nationalities. VERY different nationalities! but both of our families are very old school and both DH and I are first generation americans.

really the only thing thats different is the foods we eat.

I'm Puerto Rican, DH is Jewish (he thinks maybe Polish Jews) I've asked my MIL but she can't even tell me where she was yesterday.

I'm 100% Irish, and DH is 75% Puerto Rican / 25% French. I'd say our kids will be quite a mix!

i am pretty much the same as you, dani... DH is 100% italian and i am a mutt (german, russian, polish, romanian, hungarian, latvian, and i think norwegian too)

the only time i have to deal with it is when my ILs make comments about my eating habits
