we have a leak in our pipes and have to tear up our foyer and kitchen floor to get to it. Possibly the walls and ceiling too

I called Liberty Mutual to file the claim and I'm waiting for someone to contact me

What can I expect? Did your rates go up a lot?

We filed after Sandy and no our rates didn't go up and they didn't drop us.

As long as you are not abusing it and submitting claims for trivial things I am sure you will be fine.

Just do your homework about the reality of how much things cost too. Sometimes it is cheaper doing certain things without going through insurance. (Just general opinion for anyone really).

Ugggggggggh we thought we would have to do that too. For us, we think it is a leak in someone else's AC unit that is traveling through the walls to us. (we are in a condo building).

When we contacted our ins co, we found out that they won't cover the actual plumbing work (ie replacing the pipes etc) but will cover what needs to be done to get to the pipes. Also, keep in mind that they might not cover replacing ALL of the kitchen and foyer floor, but rather would cover replacing the say, 5 ft that had to be torn up but not the remainder to be replaced so it will match.

So, I would suggest just getting very clear info from your ins co on exactly what is and what isn't covered, since depending on what your deductible is and how much you would actually get covered for, it might not make sense to file a claim - ie if your deductible if $1000 and you would only get covered for $1500 worth of the work, it doesn't necessarily make sense to put in a claim and risk increased rates or being dropped since you will have to pay $1000 of it anyway.

If that doesn't make sense let me know and I can try to rephrase it.
