anyone get a puppy while TTc or pregnant?
Not so much a TTC question, but DH and I are thiniking about getting a puppy. Not sure if this is a good idea, especially with me going back to work in September. We have been officially TTC for 2 months now. We can either get a puppy now, wait for a litter in Dec, or wait until we eventually have kids and then get a pup when they are a bit older. Any advice from those who have a dog?

IMHO, I would get the puppy now. Training puppies is hard work and you are not going to want to do that with an infant. I have two and my youngest was one when we got pregnant. HTH! 
What kind of dog are you looking to get?

What kind of dog are you looking to get?
I'm going to agree. you have 9 months to train the little guy! Puppies are great, but think about the kids when choosing a breed.

I agree with the PP and getting the puppy now. It's hard work especially in the beginning bc they get up crying every few hours. I just think it would be easier on you sooner than later. Good Luck!

I have a 9 month old puppy. I wasn't TTC when we got him, nor do I have other children. Definitely do it before the baby comes b/c it is very much like having a child. I think I had a relatively easy puppy, but I still couldn't imagine having a newborn at the same time.
I'm relieved that he'll be all grown up by the time I have a baby.

I have three dogs, training them was rough. Better get it done now while you can focus on just the puppy. Good Luck!!!

We are thinking about getting a Labradoodle. We can get one from Purebred Breeders online now or there is a breeder in Chappaqua that is having two litters in the Fall, ready by December. My DH is hesitant about getting it online b/c you don't get to meet the pup first. I know training is rough, which is why I'm hesitant, but I know it's worth it in the long run. I tend to agree about doing it before the baby comes (whenever that is!). The breeder from NY told us if not now, she does not recommend until after children are potty trained.
Anyone have a doodle or know someone who does? Supposed to be kid friendly and trainable.
