Anyone have an infant that prefers stomach sleeping?
How did you know that they preferred it? (Assuming it was before they could roll over.) I know it's not the safest, and some babies who have reflux prefer it, but I'm curious if there are other babies who just slept better on their tummies. Did you just put them to sleep on the belly? DS falls asleep while laying on my chest and I'm wondering if he would sleep better on his tummy. I don't know if I would be comfortable with it, but I figure I would ask the BTDT moms.

Re: Anyone have an infant that prefers stomach sleeping?
DD was a belly sleeper. I finally gave in to her when she was 3 weeks or so. I noticed she was only comfortable laying on me, on her belly, while I layed down. I would try to put her to bed on her back and she would either cry, or wake up everytime within 5 minutes. My mom would watch her and put her on the couch (next to her) on her belly and she passed out, and slept so long! I decided that I would give it a try at night because she and I were MISERABLE, and she never slept better. She went for a 4 hour stretch and was sleeping through the night at 5 weeks.
I think as a mommy you just know what is best for your child. DD had good neck control, so that made me more comfortable also.
Oh, and I never told a soul about it, except DH obviously, and my mom. I knew I would have heard it from everyone so I kept it quiet until she was much older.

I agree with all of this. I made the mistake of telling our pediatrician who told me I was going to kill my son Thankfully his 3 year old brother is alive and well...and a belly sleep since 5 weeks old so I didn't take it to heart but it is something you have to comfortable with to do.
Both of my boys sleep so well on their bellies and I knew they were ready because they slept so well on us and both were able to pick up their heads to turn from side to side rather than push face forward across the sheet.

A friends son slept much better on his tummy too.
Heck, that's all parents were told to do 30 years ago and I turned out fine!

Re: Anyone have an infant that prefers stomach sleeping?
DD started sleeping on her tummy at around 6 weeks. When we would do tummy time with her, she would just love to lay there on her belly and relax. She started off on her back but would jjump up every few mins and would never get into a deep sleep.
One afternoon I put her on her belly to nap and she left very soundly for almost 3 hrs. Since then she's a stomach sleeper! So much better (even though she's not anywhere close to STTN consistantly)

I always put my children to sleep on their back but if they roll over, I leave them

DD has been sleeping on her stomach since she was 6 months old. Whenever we put on her to sleep on her back she would wake up often and cry. We tried stomach sleeping and she STTN.
