Anyone have experience with Tooth injuries?!
Has anyone's DC ever had a tooth injury? What did you do about it?
My LO (20 months) fell a few weeks ago and knocked her top tooth loose. We went to the dentist right away and she was put on a soft diet and we had to "wait and see." We went back today for a follow up and the Dentist says that there is a bit of swelling above the gum line that could be either from a root fracture or an infection and the tooth is still loose. She didn't give antibiotics or anything, just told me to come back in 2 weeks. If it doesn't firm up by then they will have to extract the tooth.
It's making me sick to my stomach thinking of her missing a front tooth for years- both for vanity reasons and thinking about possible effects to the other teeth and her speech. Plus I'm worried sick that they'll have to put her under general anesthesia to extract the tooth.
At the very least, I'm going to get a 2nd opinion before letting them take it out, but I'm looking for any advice or words of encouragement.
FYI- we weren't successful in getting an X-ray because she is just too young to understand and fought me tooth and nail.

Get a second opinion first, or even two if you have to.
Can you tell if it hurts her when she tries to bite on something? Does she makes faces when you touch it? Did the tooth get darker? I think I would just let it be and see what happens. She is only 20m and honestly it can definitely get better with time.

This happened to my niece when she was around the same age. She might have been a few months younger little one. We took her to the dentist and was told the same thing. They did not have to extract the tooth at that time but the dentist (who is a good family friend) told us that there was probably trauma to the two from teeth and if its gets darker than there would have to be an extraction. My sister was also sick to her stomach and I can understand why you are upset as my sister was so distraught when it first happened.
Eventually when she was 3.5 years old they did have to extract the two front teeth due to the trauma. and to not impact her adult teeth in the future. They were getting darker and there was infection. Again my sister was upset.
My niece wasn't impacted and just was missing her two front teeth a little bit earlier than other children. She is going to be 9 and its like it didn't happen. Hopefully they can hold off on the extraction until your DC is a little older.
I know its very upsetting now and I hope they wont have to extract her tooth now. In hindsight it is her baby teeth and in a few years it will be fine.
Im glad she is Ok and hope she feels better soon. Sorry this happen, it will be ok . I just know my sister beat herself about it, so I can imagine how you feel.

Just wanted to add maybe a different pediatric dentist would be more successful at taking X-rays. Im not sure how the set up is at the office you went too but the dentist I recently took Ajay too was really good at distracting the kids with screen images, stuffed animals and flat screen TVs. LOL it was amazing how much fun it was, I wish my dentist was like that growing up. It was basically sit in the chair like an adult.
