Wisdom Tooth
So I am having a wisdom tooth taken out tomorrow....
Its not impacted, has been in for years with no problem its just so far back and I cannot properly get to it. So it needs to go!
I am not going to an oral surgeon they said I can have it done right in my dentist office.
Anyone know what to expect? They said I can drive, will I be in alot of pain? Will eating be horrible?
thx!

Re: Wisdom Tooth
it is painful once it is over. I have had an impacted one and one that wasn't...If you are going to be awake, which i assume you are...it isn't sooo pleasant imo. You hear the breaking of the tooth and the pressure. Bottom ones hurt me more than top ones. And you will be sensitive to food for a day or two.

Re: Wisdom Tooth
Everyone is different. I know people who were bad for a couple of days. But I had 4 out at once and I was fine. I remember I was at the mall the next day.
They will prob give you something to take if you have pain. You will prob have to ice the area for a few hours after. Just eat soft things and you will be fine to eat.

Re: Wisdom Tooth
I had all 4 done at the same time. I bled a lot. They only stiched my bottom ones. I had no appetite, and the sound of the teeth breaking made me sick. It was not painful though. nothing like a root canal or anything. Mine was like 8 years ago, so a lot has probably changed with the procedure since then.
My friend went under gas, and she was fine with all out. They wanted to charge me 50.00 a tooth for gas, I said no way.

Re: Wisdom Tooth
I got 2 out at once. The top and bottom on my right side and the top one was impacted and infected. I got knocked out totally plus gas (I definitely recommend that) and you are fine for about an hour after you wake up because you are still numb. Then the pain kicks in. The vicodin did nothing for me but most people just fall asleep. The next day I was sore and not being able to eat sux. But on the 3rd day, its back to normal. You will be fine.

Re: Wisdom Tooth
Oh lordy, now I am most nervous about the sound of the tooth breaking thing. I can see how that will totally make me nauseous (and sad, even though its not a necessary tooth)
I would gladly pay the $50 to be knocked out, but I don't think I can get myself home then, right?
I got the heebee jeebees when they took a temporary crown off to put the perm one on, The feeling of taking a tooth out is so bad for me once they are gone they are gone

Re: Wisdom Tooth
I had 2 taken out 2 years ago. IMO get knocked out! My bottom ones can stay in there I don't ever want to have them out. But I am a big chicken.

sorry should not have said that. It only lasts for a second. Maybe your dentist has headphones, one of mine did. Maybe even bring a walkman.

Re: Wisdom Tooth
Good Luck tomorrow!
I had all four wisdom teeth impacted so it wasn't easy getting to them and removing them. I was in pain for a few days and was given painkillers which helped alot.
My sis didn't have all her wisdom teeth impacted - and was feeling fine about 2 days later.
I would assume you would be out of commission for one day - to just rest and you must drinks fluids and soft food for a few days. The novacane starts to wear off after several hours - so that should give you enough time to get home and relax.
