Anyone have there cat spayed? Have a few questions

My poor Tink got spayed yesterday and is NOT acting herselfChat Icon I know she just had major surgery but she doesn't even come to me.

She has not gone to the bathroom since being home. Should I be worried? She's been eating and drinking tho. She has not moved all night from under my bed. I've been up all night checkin on her.

She won't take her pain meds. We put it in her food but we only got it in her 1 and a half times yesterday and she's suppost to have it three. We can't grab her to open her mouth and just put in the meds. Any sugguestions?

And she looks like she's missing two chunks of meat on both sides of her far back near her legs. She looks super skinny in this area from the rest of her body. Is that normal? I didn't see her till late last night and by the time I got home the vet was closed.

We are suppost to check her stitches and again can't even get near her to do so. She hisses at us and she has never done that before. I'm guessing she's scared and in pain?

Can anyone share there story with me with there cat to calm my nerves. I'm a mess over here and fear something is wrongChat Icon

Re: Anyone have there cat spayed? Have a few questions

The way she is acting sounds pretty normal for an animal in pain. I have had cats and dogs neutered, spayed and they all respond to pain in different ways.

I never even gave my dogs the pain meds when they were fixed. She really should start to act more like herself by tomorrow.

The chunks of meat, i don't know what to say about that. I don't really understnad what you mean and what that has to do with her getting fixed though.

And when you said hasnt gone to the bathroom, do you mean urination or bowels? I would call the vet about this, esp if she has not urinated. Def def call on this one, and ask about the chunks of meat you referred to.

The hissing and hiding though, cats do that when in pain, she really should be more like herself by tomorrow.Chat Icon

Re: Anyone have there cat spayed? Have a few questions

My vet said that kittens bounce back very quickly. I got my kitten spayed at 6 months and I chose not to let them keep her overnight. I wanted her home with me. They sent her home on pain medication and said she wouldnt need anymore after that dose (I picked her up around 8pm). She did not appear to be in any pain after the medication wore off and quite honestly was back to her normal self almost immediately. I can say that she was VERY hungry (I never asked the vet when they had last fed her) and she ate two cans of cat food in a matter of minutes. Was she on pain medication when she came home? It sounds like she is in pain. I would call your vet if her behavior does not improve, especially if she ate and did not have a BM. Did they give you one of those collars for her so she does not rip her stiches out? My kitty did after three daysChat Icon I Chat Icon your kitty is okChat Icon

Since she's not getting her pain meds, I would assume she is in a lot of pain. I would do what I had to do to get the meds into her.
As far as the "meat", I'm assuming you see bare skin, which would make sense since they have to shave the cat to do the surgery.
If she isn't acting more normal today, I would call the vet asap.

Is she any better? Were you able to catch her to get the pain meds in her?
