Re: anyone here have an iud? experiences?
I think IUD's are a great idea.. that being said.. I had one put in when my DD was a couple months old.. I went back after a month for the Dr. to check on it and it had fallen out! and I never knew it So after a few small heart attacks and a pregnancy test later I decided to go back on the pill for now.

I have one. I have the paraguard (the one without the hormones). I LOVE it. The first 2-3 months on it AF was more crampy, and heavier but no she is under control and back to her normal self.
FM me if you want.

Re: anyone here have an iud? experiences?
I just got one 3 weeks ago and so far so good. I spotted for a few days a week after insertion. I go for my follow up next week and Jen's story freaked me out
The only thing that I didn't like is that you have to get it put in while AF flow is visiting.

I got one 3 months after having DS (she said the chance of expulsion was lower). I'm BFing so no real AF yet. I love it over the previous options and I can't take hormine pills so it's great!

Re: anyone here have an iud? experiences?
I have the Mirena and absolutely love it. I had a light spotting for about a month after I had it inserted , but after that, I had 2 very light periods and then nothing. I don't really get an AF at all and that's a beautiful thing, IMO. I've had it in for about 15 months now and all is well. Best decision for me. FM if you have any specific questions.

I did not. I did not have AF when I had my Mirena put in.

They recommend you get it inserted when you have AF because it's easier to slide in and something else with your cervix. I am getting the Paraguard next month. I am little nervous because the dr. said their will be a little discomfort inserting it since I don't my period yet (I am BF and still haven't gotten it).
I am also nervous about it falling and getting PG again. #2 was a surprise but we weren't doing that good of job to avoid it.

My OB/GYN told us to use condoms until I got AF the first time after it was inserted ( I have the Paraguard). Then again, if I get preggo again it is life threatening for me. I know it is not the same situation but ask your OB/GYN about it. If you do not want #3, this may be a a way to be 100% safe the first month you have it in if you cannot get it in when you have AF. KWIM?

Re: anyone here have an iud? experiences?
I got pregnant last year with a paraguard IUD in place. Actually, it must have moved, because that is how I got pregnant! I had it checked regularly by my doctor since 2004 when it was inserted & just as recent as February of 2006 it was checked, but... in April of 06 I got pregnant.
I ended up having a miscarriage in June, however, it was not necessarily because of the IUD, but I did have to have it removed when I had the D&C with the miscarriage.
One thing that I was told, though it didn't stand true for me, was t hat an IUD potentially scars the uterus, so, if you hadn't been pregnant before (which I hadn't), you may have trouble getting pregnant after you remove it. (I got pregnant again in August & Ava is now 5 months old!)
So, just do some research, ask a lot of questions and make a decision based on what is best for you, now & in the future.

Yes, that true for the Paraguard if you've never had a child. I have the Mirena, and its only recommended for those who have had children before. And the Mirena does not scar the uterus, so fertility returns as soon as it is taken out. That's why I got this kind, just in case

Re: anyone here have an iud? experiences?
The major difference with Mirena & Paraguard is that one releases hormones (mirena) into your system and the other prevents sperm from reaching the egg and prevents the egg from implanting in the uterus (paraguard).
It depends on what is right for you.
