Anyone here live in NJ and work in NYC?

DH and I are thinking about moving to Jersey and both work in the city. Looking to see, approximately, how much in taxes get taken out from your paycheck? TIA

If you live in NJ, you will be paying NJ taxes. NYC taxes would not get taken out of your paycheck. You would still pay federal, SS, Medicare out of your paycheck. But living out of state wouldn't "cost" you more.

Not true. We just had a tax audit at my job. If you work in NY you pay NY taxes. You will still pay NJ taxes as far as your home goes. NYS doesn't miss a beat. We got hit with fines because we were filing things improperly with the state because of issues just like this one.

You would still pay NYS taxes, not NYC taxes.

This was my understanding too.

Ok, I get it, that's because I won't be living in NYC. So I guess I should look at my current paycheck and see how much the state takes out and assume that price will probably be equal to the amount NJ takes out as well.

I did years ago - I got some credit in NJ for what I paid to NY in taxes so I didn't end up paying the same amount to each state. I was single though and didn't own a home so I owed very little to NJ each year.
