Anyone here use a full size bed for their toddler instead of buying those tiny beds meant for toddlers?

We are thinking about using out full size bed that we have in our guest room. Of course we are going to makes some changes like take the box spring mattress out so it's lower to the floor. We are also going to put a sheet of wood to act as the box spring for support then use the full size mattress on top of that. Then we are going to remove the foot board feature. We are pushing it against the walls so the only think we need to buy is one side rail.

I'm just curious how many of you have done this for their kids? How did it work out? What did you do to make it more toddler friendly?

We got DD a full size bed instead of a toddler bed. One reason was that she is just so tall - She didn't really fit the mattress anymore. The second was that I didn't want to keep buying beds as she gets older.

We have our 2 year old in a twin with a rail that we bought for it. She loves it and we can lay with her to read her books before bed.Chat Icon

Ryan is in a full size bed with rails on both sides, and no boxspring.

Chat Icon I just realized that I'm making it much harder by taking out the box spring just to put a sheet of wood.

I'm buying the side rail and my DS has always managed to slide off my bed with no problems and it's probably a lot higher in height than the full bed we have for him.

I like the fact that we are not going to spend money on toddler beds too. #2 is coming along soon so we are going to try to save where we possibly can.

Now I'm going to look at some comforter sets for a toddler that hopefully I will not have any problem finding in full size Chat Icon

just curious did you put anything under the mattress for extra support or was that not needed? Our mattress is not that tough. Ds jumped on it without the box spring and I could see it caving in the middle.

This is our plan with DD. We have an excellent mattress that is only a few years old that we had to pack away when DD came (her room was the former guest room). I see no reason to buy a whole new bed when this is an excellent mattress. I haven't thought of the logistics yet b/c it isn't going to happen for a LONG time Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

When DD is ready fro a bed, she is going to a full size mattress. We have one in the guest room that we will move into her room .

The bed has slats so that a boxspring is not necessary. We'll put it back when he gets older.

Never went for a toddler bed--IMO they are a waste of $$. Transitioned right into a twin. Our convertible crib transitions to a full size headboard/footboard but our rooms are to small for it so we went twin Chat Icon

I don't plan on using a toddler bed. I'm going to go straight to a full size bed with rails.

DD is big for her age. We went right to a twin. It's on the box spring and against the wall. By the end of the summer she'll have a frame/headboard. She only rolled off a couple times.
