Anyone Insulin Resistant?
After not being able to lose ANY weight on a 1200 - 1300 calorie diet for over 3 weeks, I finally went to see a doctor thinking my thyroid was the culprit. The doctor (who is also a nutritionist) was very detailed and went through my food log - she basically told me I'm doing everything right and eating exactly how she recommends her patients to eat and that she would have expected me to have lost over 10 lbs by now. She took blood work and I should know for sure by tomorrow, but she said her strong feeling at this point is that I'm likely insulin resistant. This is based not only on the weight gain but also numerous other symptoms I've been having over the past year that eventually brought me to seeing her. She didn't explain much further because she wants to get the results back first.
I'm trying to research it but it seems its closely associated with pre-diabetes. Is anyone else Insulin Resistant? What did you do for it? Did it cause weight gain and did you find you were able to lose it easier once you got the IR under control?
I have a family history of diabetes so I'm a bit nervous.

Re: Anyone Insulin Resistant?
Yes I am insulin resistant. And Yes it is pre diabetes.
Like people mentioned in another thread, its possible you are not eating enough.
I had a very hard time losing weight over a year ago. I joined weigh watchers again and Ive been able to lose 40lbs. Have you tried measuring all your food?

What kind of doctor do you see for this? Can you ladies recommend yours? Thanks!

I saw an Endocrinologist. I'm in Rockland so I can't recommend mine, although she is great.

Re: Anyone Insulin Resistant?
Did your doctor order an A1C test as part of the blood work? Thats the test that determines if you are diabetic/pre-diabetic. It measures the level of sugar in your blood over a 3 month time span.
Prediabetes is an a1C level of 5.7 to 6..2 or 6.3. Anything over 6.5 means you have Type 2 diabetes. A level of 5.7 or above is pre-diabetes which is high risk for potential development of Type 2 diabetes. My dad was recently diagnosied with borderline Type 2 diabetes (his A1C was in the low 6s) and was put on Metformin to control it (he is rail thin so its not because his diet is bad).

Re: Anyone Insulin Resistant?
Yes, I had an A1C and a glycomark test done. I am pre-diabetic unfortunately but she thinks it can be reversed with diet and exercise.

Yes it can be reversed. My A1C last year was 6.1 and after losing 60lbs it dropped to 5.7 this past January and holdong steady, I hope to increase my exercise and lose another 20-30lbs so it can drop to 5.6 or below.
