anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
Im wondering is it really worth doing the toddler bed first. If you didnt use toddler bed what kind did you use?
I have my old daybed from when I was a kid, in great shape but its metal bars.. wonder if that would be okay to use for a 2 year old.
Thanks

We went from crib to full size bed. We had the rail on one side since the bed was against the wall.

Re: anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
We won't do a toddler bed. We have 2 beds that are options...a twin-size bed that is really cute and was my mom's as a little girl. Or we do have a full-size mattress that's a REALLY nice mattress that we only bought a few years ago. I'm inclined to use the full-size bed with bedrails when the time comes.

We only did a toddler bed b/c our crib changed to one, if hadn't, we would have done a twin.

Re: anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
we won't be. DS will be getting a full sized bed right around 17/18 months with rails. we'll see how he does. if we need to buy another crib for DC #2 we will, but i am hoping DS transitions well to the bed.

Re: anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
My DD was never in a toddler bed- she is big for her age so we went right to a twin. Though we never used rails- we had the mattress and boxspring on the floor. She fell out only once. The bed's now on a frame and we didn't bother with rails.

we took the side rail off the crib for a few months when we first transitioned her. then we moved her to a full sized bed with no rails and she has done great

Re: anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
We're going straight to regular twin size bed around December. But I'm getting a day bed with wood rails around it and will have a safety rail on the side where there's an opening. My son moves like a clock throughout the night so I need to make sure that he doesn't fall out of that bed.

Go right to full size. If your crib doesn't convert, it doesn't make sense to buy a toddler bed and then later on a full size.
Ds was 20 months.

Re: anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
we were going to go to a bed, but my SIL's niece is going to give us her toddler bed (in great condition), so we will prob do that first. If we weren't being given it, then we would have just gone to a regular bed too. DS's crib converts to a toddler bed too, but we will be using it for baby #2 and then I will convert it to the toddler bed for them.

Re: anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
I was looking at DS in his crib the other day. He was all stretched out - I can't see spending the $$ on a toddler bed.

We went straight from the crib to a full size bed. No problems. I didn't see the point. Her crib even converted to a toddler bed but we didn't use it. With DS we may have to b/c I can see him trying to climb out of his crib which DD never did.

Thanks everyone! Now gotta go hunting for a bed. She too moves around alot, not as much since she started using blanket. Ill have to see if any great deals will be popping up for full beds.

Re: anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
This is where I am at right now. We are leaning towards getting DS the set he will use for the rest of his time under this roof (unless of course it HAS to be replaced) so we are looking at getting him a twin. It just kills me how expensive furniture is.

Re: anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
DS was climbing out of his crib since before he was a year old, so we first lowered the mattress all the way, then would let him sleep with the side of the crib down so he wouldn't fall out, and then we just took the side of the crib off (it was like a daybed at that point). Once he was too tall for that, we went right to a twin bed with a bedrail. Now he sleeps without the bedrail - only fell out once since we took it off.

Re: anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
DS has had a queen size mattress and box spring with a bed rail since he was 1. It's up in a corner so that only the bottom is open.

Re: anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
We moved OOS when DD was 2.5 and didn't take her crib with us so we got her a twin size bed. We put it against the wall and put a bed rail on the other side. She loves it.

Re: anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
We went straight to full size bed with rails on both sides at 11 months. DS hated the crib and the toddler bed was the same size. Finally slept once in the full.

Re: anyone not do a toddler bed after crib?
We are going to go straight to a full sized bed. Toddler bed seems like a waste since our crib does not convert.
