Anyone NOT doing Lamaze??
Would it be horrible if we didn't do it? I feel like I have no time to even look into it and find out where and when to go. I was thinking aboutpossibly getting a dvd at the library to get a lil training at least.

Re: Anyone NOT doing Lamaze??
My dr did not seem to force it on us, he just said "if you want"....so my guess is it's not mandatory, but might be helpful. For me, it does not make sense since they hospital has it one night for 5 weeks - at this stage, who knows if I'll be in labor before the class is over! Secondly, I think the odds are better that I'll have a c-section anyway.

Re: Anyone NOT doing Lamaze??
We rented a DVD. Turned out to be unnecessary as we had a c-section, but from everything we heard, a DVD is fine.

Re: Anyone NOT doing Lamaze??
I had no plans of doing it when I was preggo w/Hayley and this time I know I am definetly having another c-section so there is no need for me to take it.

Re: Anyone NOT doing Lamaze??
We didn't. We went to one birthing class but never went back. I'm just going to go with the flow and hopefully the nurses will tell me what to do.

Re: Anyone NOT doing Lamaze??
I went to the library and rented laugh and learn lamaze. Interesting breathing techniques and some useful info but I asked a ton of people and many said it is not worth it...even from people who took Lamaze. I think a video would be fine

I didn't... I had no problems breathing. I used my yoga breathing during labor.

It isn't BS and you will end up doing it, whether you take a class or your nurses show you.

Re: Anyone NOT doing Lamaze??
I was signed up for the class, but only made it to the first of five classes because I had DS prematurely....anyways, I did fine, the nurses told me what to do.....so to answer your question, no, I don't think it would be horrible if you don't do it!

I don't think I am....I just don't think it will help me. Most likely I'm opting for a csection anyway. BOTB

ITA with Kate here. I went to the childbirth class at my hospital (which only touched on Lamaze), so then I rented "Laugh and Learn Lamaze" (VERY informative).
When I was laboring through contractions waiting for my epi- my husband helped me with my breathing that we'd learned. I still felt the contractions, and they were painful, but manageble. I really didn't think the Lamaze breathing was doing anything, but it helped to keep my mind busy.
When the doctor came in to do my epi- my DH was so distracted that he forgot to look at the monitor to tell me another contraction was coming (which is when you would start the breathing cycle).
Well- when the peak of that contraction hit me- HOLY HELL. It was WAAAAY worse than the other contractions that I had breathed through.
SO- my take is that Lamaze breathing DOES work as it helps to keep the mind focused off the pain of the contractions. You WILL still feel pain, but it is totally manageable. Had all my other contractions felt like that "unprepeared" one- I would have been screaming bloody murder until I got my epi. Instead, I was very calm and controlled while I waited for my epi.
