I would try the similac, but if you notice any symptoms like your DD exhibited, then I would switch. But if you feel more comfortable using something else from the get go I can completely understand your rationale.

All hospitals just give the similac? And from there we continue to use this?

Well, the hospital I delivered DS at 2 years ago gave Similac so I am basing my response on that past experience. I think some may give Enfamil, it just depends upon the hospital.

We plan on trying whatever the hospital offers this time around and see how DC #2 reacts.

Most hospital swap back and forth between similac and enfamil so it just depends which one they have at the time your baby is born.
I had to switch to Good Start with DS. This time I plan to give BF a try, but would go with whatever formula the hospital gives me if we supplement or if BF'ing doesn't work out.

Re: anyone NOT going to use the hospital formula..but using another one
We used whatever BJ's had (I think it was Similac). We figured, if DC didn't have an issue with it, it would save us time and money. You really only need specific formula if DC has a problem with a different brand. There's also nothing saying that the formula that the hospital gives you is the best, either. It's just what they have available, so don't take their usage as a recommendation or the "preferred" type of formula.

Most hospitals have both similac and enfamil, but will only promote one. For instance, south side hospital automatically gives you enfamil, but if you request similac they have it and will give it to you.
