Anyone NOT swaddle their newborn?
It's becoming more and more apparent that my 2 week old DD HATES to be swaddled. Is it really THAT necessary they be swaddled? I know it's supposed to help make them feel secure and to also keep them from startling themselves with their hands when they sleep.
DH and I just don't know what to do anymore... she hates the swaddle, but also won't sleep without it either.
TIA!

I did w/ DD but DS wanted nothing to do w/ it. I learned early on that they are two different people!

Re: Anyone NOT swaddle their newborn?
Both my kids hated it......
Have you tried just swaddling her on the bottom and leaving her arms out?

Re: Anyone NOT swaddle their newborn?
It isn't necessary at all. My DS never liked to be swaddled at all. Will she nap in the swing? That gives somewhat of a "close" feeling

Yep!!! That's how they did it at the hospital and how we were doing it at home, but then she kept hittiing herself in her sleep and waking herself up, so we switched.
We tried the miracle blanket as well, and well....not such a miracle for us.

I try swaddling sadie when she is having a fit.. sometimes it works, sometimes she wants nothing to do with it and it makes her more angry.... She rarely sleeps swaddled.

Re: Anyone NOT swaddle their newborn?
We stopped swaddling at 10 weeks. Looking back I really could have did away with it sooner since he began breaking out of it around 6 weeks.
ETA - we used the Halo Sleepsack with Swaddle. I was never good with using just a receiving blanket.

Re: Anyone NOT swaddle their newborn?
DD does not like it, from day one she always wanted her hands out and now to even try to swaddle her with her hands out is not happening....

Re: Anyone NOT swaddle their newborn?
Connor hates having his arms swaddled so usually we leave those out and keep the rest of him wrapped up.

Re: Anyone NOT swaddle their newborn?
We swaddled DS for only the 1st couple of weeks, after that he would always break out of it.
We use the Halo sleep sacks and love them.

Re: Anyone NOT swaddle their newborn?
I started to swaddle DS but he always took his arms out... so I stopped with the swaddling.. I had him in a positioner and would just tuck a blanket under him from the waist down.

Re: Anyone NOT swaddle their newborn?
Wow, I am so jealous of you all! DS is 6 months and still swaddled. I have tried putting him down without the swaddle but he wakes himself up. I don't think he will ever be ready to be un-swaddled I use the miracle blanket and the swaddle me. The tighter the better with this kid!
