Anyone travel recently with JUST their marriage certificate and passport under their MAIDEN name?
My coworker is giving me a hard time because we're going to Cayman on a company trip and I don't want to change my passport.
I just want to make sure I can still travel with my marriage cert. and my old passport. The ticket is in my married name and I have Driver's Licenses in both my married and maiden name.
Any input would be helpful. Thanks Ladies!

my DH is a customs officer and says that if the passport is still valid, bring your marriage cert and you will be fine

I think you may have an issue. If the tickets was in your maiden name, you'd have no issues.
Maybe contact the Department of State for a real answer:http://travel.state.gov/passport/fri/ChangeName/ChangeName_851.html

Re: Anyone travel recently with JUST their marriage certificate and passport under their MAIDEN name?
this is direct from the travel.state.gov website concerning the Cayman Islands:
All Americans traveling by air outside of the United States are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States. This requirement will be extended to sea travel (except closed-loop cruises), including ferry service, by the summer of 2009. Until then, U.S. citizens traveling by sea must have government-issued photo identification and a document showing their U.S. citizenship (for example, a birth certificate or certificate of nationalization), or other Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) compliant document such as a passport card for entry or re-entry to the U.S. Sea travelers should also check with their cruise line and countries of destination for any foreign entry requirements.
Essentially what this is saying is you must have a passport if traveling by air--but if you have a driver's license and birth certificate that is sufficient for sea travel....until summer 2009.
Now the problem is that your ticket is supposed to match the name on your passport. You should contact your airline, and see what they say. Leaving the U.S. is usually not a problem--its coming back IN that is the issue.
Considering that when you re-enter the U.S. you will be dealing with a U.S. customs/immigration agent and not your airline--I would be get the passport changed or find out if you can change your name on the ticket.

she doesn't have to - i replied above - my DH does this for a living and he said that it won't be an issue at all. as long as her old passport is still valid, it doesn't matter what name is on the ticket.

Re: Anyone travel recently with JUST their marriage certificate and passport under their MAIDEN name?
No my passport is only a year old- its still valid, just the name changed. The problem is my ticket is booked under Buckley
If I was traveling myself I wouldn't care as much but since I'm traveling with work I really would prefer to avoid a situation....especially since they're already harassing me about it.
We're traveling by air. As far as I know we're still using US Airways.
UGH- this is so annoying! I mean- I'm being retarded about it but seriously I REALLY don't want to shell out another $60 plus photos plus whatever else to get this done when I literally JUST went through this
Am I being ridiculous????

it doesn't cost anything to get the name changed on your passport if it was issued less than a year ago.
but like i said, i asked my DH and he said that you do NOT need to worry. your marriage certificate will be enough.

Thank you so much for checking!!!
It was about a month OVER a year ago! so I would have to pay the fee. I'm gonna call the # at the passport dept just to confirm but I'm pretty sure I'm going to try and live dangerously

Re: Anyone travel recently with JUST their marriage certificate and passport under their MAIDEN name?
I called the US Gov Passport # and they told me to change it. If all of my docs were in my maiden name (tix, drivers lic and passport) but since i booked the tix in my married name, if I want to travel under that name, I have to change it.
bummer
Again- thanks for checking. I can prob get away with it but I'd rather not have a problem, especially since I'm traveling w/ work.

Re: Anyone travel recently with JUST their marriage certificate and passport under their MAIDEN name?
I have been travelling all over the world for the last 10 years with a passport in my maiden name, tickets booked in my maiden name, and a copy of my marriage certificate, not once has anyone asked me any questions, nor have they asked to see my marriage certificate, and we never have any problems.
I flew once to Paris with tickets booked in my married name, and again, no one said a thing to us. It just depends on the IO that you get, what kind of day they have had, and their general attitude.

I always book tickets in my maiden name, because I refuse to pay for the name change until it expires. Sorry :0(

Wish I would've known this. According to the travel agent- I had to change my passport. Now I'm praying I get it back in time for my trip!!

Actually, you do not pay anything for a name change! You do not get issued a new passport, there is a notation in the back of the passport with the name change.
