Anyone with a front load washer??
They have a new detergent out just for front load washers. Has anyone tried it and do you see a difference. It is a little more money, and I'm not sure if it is worth it.

Re: Anyone with a front load washer??
I don't bother.
I use Purex Free and Clear and just put it half of the recommended amount.
Twice a year I run a cup off vinegar through a hot cycle to "clean" the machine.
My MIL taught me that, she did that and her machines last for 20 years. Keeps the repairman away. She just replaced one not because it was broken but because it was so inefficient.

Never heard of running vinegar through the machine. I will have to try that.

Re: Anyone with a front load washer??
We use the HE detergent b/c when we used half the regular detergent it still created a lot of suds and every wash needed an extra rinse.
I also do the vinegar thing a few times a year.

We use the HE and it is really good. I heard that it can damage the machine if you dont use the HE with front loaders.

I only use the HE detergent. I said it negated the warranty and knowling my luck I didn't want to mess with it.

Yes, white vinegar.
I buy it by the gallon at Costco/BJ's. No harmful envirnomental effects and no toxic fumes.
Vinegar is also a mild disinfectant. As we are trying to go as "green" as possible in the house, I now use it instead of a lot of pre-made cleaners on non-granite counters and some other surfaces. Of course, it works on windows as well.
After, I'm done cleaning DH says the house smells like a salad

I like to clean with vinegar as well. I didn't know about the washer trick so thanks! But my hubby complains all the time about the smell too!
I'm embarassed to say this whole time I did not know I was supposed to use different detergent for a front load?

Re: Anyone with a front load washer??
I had a lot of problems with my frontload washer after about a year and I was told it was because I was using detergent that wasnt HE. The serviceman said for whatever reason it DOES make a difference. I switched just to be safe.

Re: Anyone with a front load washer??
WOW!! I didn't realize how many people use this detergent. My MIL has a front loader and never had a problem with her regular detergent. Plus, her machines are about 6 years old. There may be a difference with new machines. I will go buy HE detergent instead. Thanks!!!

Make that Distilled White Vinegar and use it every time you are washing your towels.
FWIW: Never user fabric softener on towels..

This is true.
I guess the only question that remains is, are all front-loaders also high efficiency machines?

I am assuming that in the Manual, it should say what detergent to use, and if the Washer is High efficiency
We plan on buying front loaders very soon

Re: Anyone with a front load washer??
We just replaced our old front loader with a new one because we needed something bigger and our old one was small (and leaking!).
I never really used HE detergent and just used 1/2 regular amount. I think with my new machine, I will use HE, but nowadays, lots of the detergents are becoming HE anyway.
I have a clean cycle on my new machine. The manual says to use bleach, but I always used vinegar and will use that again.

Re: Anyone with a front load washer??
WE have a front loader and you have to use the HE detergent. An old post/thread on here said sometihng about censors can get confused when using the wrong detergent. Also since there is less water used with the new front loaders, they need the HE detergent which suds less.
