Anyone worried...
that they go into labor no where near their hospital? I know you can deliver anywhere, but my family and a lot of my friends are in NJ. DH and I go there a lot to visit, but DH gave a date to both our families that 4 weeks b4 my DD we are no longer traveling to NJ. He's so worried we won't be by LIJ. I think it's funny, but let him play the bad cop.

Re: Anyone worried...
This is my fear scenario:
I go into major labor while at home by myself, and our friend who is trained to deliver babies has to come over and deliver it! He already told me he would do it if he had to, but I told him I would cross my legs and run to the hospital to avoid that. I don't think I could ever look at him again!!!

Good point... I already told everyone at my office they may have to drive me to the hospital. DH works close to home and is usually home b4 me from work so I'm not worried about being alone. Plus, my IL's live close by.

Re: Anyone worried...
I was planning it all out in my head....I plan on working up until labor, so my worst fear is going into labor at my office & having to have my boss drive me there. DH will be in the city, so depending on the time, it could be interesting to get him home in time but fortunately my BIL said he would step in (has 2 sons of his own). So needless to say, he is my "on call man" in case I need a driver!!!!

I work in the city too and sometimes when I am on the subway I think please please please do not go into labor while riding on mass transit! That would be a nightmare!

Re: Anyone worried...
I just wanted to add that it is very rare to go into labor with no symptoms at all prior and for it to happen that quickly. Most people have plenty of time to get to the hospital (especially with #1). Obviously, there are always exceptions but again, incredibly rare.

True, but no one wants to be part of the "rare occasion."
I have a cousin who gave birth on her kitchen floor b/c the Doc sent her home and said she's not ready/ Few hours later that baby started coming right out. Oh... then you hear those women delivering in taxicabs. Gross! Those cabs are so dirty.

Re: Anyone worried...
I'm not because I'm really nowhere near my hospital to begin with! I live an hour away (with no traffic). I work about 20 minutes from home, but I work in the direction going towards the hospital so I'll actually be closer from work. Plus, DH works about 5 minutes away from me so he could be at my office quickly if I went into labor at work.
The only thing I worry about is needing to go to the hospital during rush hour... on the LIE heading east.

Re: Anyone worried...
I'm so worried about going into labor and no one being around to drive me to the hospital DH works in westbury and we live in farmingville. My mom works close to home so she's my best bet. I pray I'm close to home when I go into labor. We really don't go far from home anyway.

Re: Anyone worried...
i both live and work about 7 minutes away from the hospital where i'm delivering, so i'm really not worried about getting there on time.
but i will admit that i am absolutely TERRIFIED about my labor progressing so quickly that i'll have to do it without the epi this is based on how fast my labor was last time, and how they say #2 comes that much quicker...
for all of you afraid about giving birth at home or having no one to take you to the hospital - you can always call 911! they'll be there within minutes and have probably delivered a baby or two

Re: Anyone worried...
It's just so so so rare that a first time mom will deliver THAT quickly.
Most first time pregnancies go through endless hours upon hours of labor.
I know I was suprised - I expected this big bang. Instead, I woke up, had some painful contractions, but wasn't too sure. As the hours progressed, they became more painful. I labored for god knows how long in the hospital. I'd venture to say that's the experience for most first pregnancies.
So when you go into labor, you'll likely have PLENTY of time to get to your hospital.

Re: Anyone worried...
I'm not worried because I live 10 min from the hospital and I DON"T plan to work up until my due date. My DH works in the city but my mom is 5 minutes away and like someone else said, I can always call 911 is for some weird reason nobody else is available to drive me. Also I don't really plan to go anywhere off LI past about 35 or so weeks.
